I sold an ipad for a friend and when the money was paid we posted it to the buyer. The buyer started to complain as soon as a few days had passed about not receiving his item Well more than a week went past and this guy harrassed me to the extreme! He had entered the wrong address on ebay and the item was returned 'address not known'. When we got it back we resent it priority paid. As soon as the buyer receieved it this time he started to send photos of the 'broken ipad'. I felt instantly suspicious as he was taking particular steps necessary to make a claim even though he had hardly any feedback and would be considered a newby. i expressed my concerns to ebay and they assured me they would consider my concerns that this was a scam if anything happened. Well long story short the buyer made a complaint and as soon as the required time frame had passed he esculated the claim to ebay and they found the case in his favor! I cant believe it. I was not asked anything by ebay and i was hoping I would get to have my say but I didnt. They buyer is sending this ipad back and I have to give him a refund as well as pay for delivery. I honestly dont believe its the same ipad! I would have told ebay that the one I sent was sent in a hard case and was very well protected but the buyer does not show this case in photos nor does he mention it. Has anyone any suggestions? I rang paypal and they were rude. Told me to take it up with ebay.

selling second hand items like phones, ipads, laptops ect ect are the most scammed items on ebay.
buyers scam sellers and sellers scam buyers.
buyers buy thinking they are getting near perfect like new items, haha yeah right.
smart buyers know exactly how to use ebays complaints system to scam the seller. often they wind up with a refund and the item.
selling used items on ebay is getting harder and harder.
buyer has all the protections, seller as hardly any.
my advice, sell pay on pickup only in cash.

Thanks for your reply. I wish I had never done it! God this is exhausting. It is obvious it is some kind of scam but I am sure I wont be able to get anywhere.

It helps to read what you're saying.
A few 'enters' at appropriate times certainly would help. Otherwise it is hard to read and many won't bother trying to navigate to the end.
I certainly didn't. I got lost halfway through.

You should have taken photos of the serial number.
Then you could prove whether they were returning the same item or not.

Sounds to me like they have broken their ipad and this is their way of getting a new one without having to pay for it. Unfortunately, unless you have the serial number of the one you sold, you have no real way of proving the one he sends back isn't yours.

As said here, the serial number is proof either way. Ask your friend if they have saved it somewhere. It's possible they did, if they needed it for anything before, like the charger recall, or just being careful.
