the ageist statements may put younger buyers off

I've seen some quite ageist comments on these boards.

I wonder if you older sellers realise that it may put younger buyers off just in the same way you may be put off by someone making ageist comments about people in your age group.

As someone who is under 45 I am not racist (as was assumed to be the case when a poster posted what others saw as racist)

I open the doors for people and appreciate when others do so for me .I say please and thankyou when I should.

I try hard to treat others as I would like to be treated and not make ignorant assumptions about anyone.

Not a good look for sellers to so publicly judge all us younger generation in such an all encompassing  negative way.

I am a buyer only Iza and from my point of view I don't single sellers out by age groups...only by the service I receive.  How would we know....the seller's age is not disclosed.

Most of the comments on the boards have nothing to do with the ages of buyers and sellers, but are talking generalities and from my experience, and obviously the experience of many other people, the younger generation have very few manners.

I agree with you Iza. I to open doors and say please and thank you. I find most young people do have good manners, I have run market stalls and a shop for years and have dealt with the public for more then 20 years and  you will always get the occasional rude young one, but you also can get the rude older person as well. I feel most people are well mannered.

Merry Christmas to you and I hope 2013 is a great year for you and your family

We all smile in the same language.

Re: the ageist statements may put younger buyers off

The art of pleasantries and manners flew out the door years ago and it's a real shame.  :_|

I for one would love it if a man opens a car door for me, or lets me out of an elevator first.  My own husband doesn't even do that for me.

It's now become rather animalistic with a 'gotta get their first!' mentality.

😞

I do come across well manner people but they are quite rare.  To those people I say ; I appreciated your integrity, manners, goodness and respect for another human being.  :-x

I said to myself,
Self, I said...
Cheer up, things could get worse,
So I cheered up and sure enough,
Things got worse.

My partner prefers me to exit the elevator first. That way I can ensure the doors don't close on her whilst she is navigating the exit with her wheelchair.

Horses for courses and there is always an exception to the rule.

As far as I am concerned the art of good manners is making the other person feel comfortable with what you do.

It stands to reason that someone in a wheelchair would prefer you to go through any door first and hold it for them.

I imagine that a lot of conventional rules of manners must be broken to accommodate a wheelchair.

I've never had anybody abuse me for holding the door for them; must be doing something right. 😉

Puts things a bit more into perspective.

I was trying to find an "enlightening" statement about this thread but honestly can't. Life is what you make it... no matter what anyone else thinks or does around you. We live in a world of billions however we are each a unique person.
