Hi I haven't sold for a while and noticed Australia post has changed their reg and tracking. They say now that you pay for signature for around $3 and then another I think $1.50 for insurance. Do I need to do both for seller protection? What do they require now? Ive tried to ask on paypal but their site is playing up and when I press the button nothing happens to email them.

all you need is proof of shipping for PP seller protection, the cheapest tracking method will suffice
and C&S is cheaper then AP satchels and boxes
AP registered prepaid envelopes for large letters (printed matter)

so I can just pay the $2.95 for signature? Was looking at C&S but they have gone up a lot too so not much difference. Can you register prepaid satchels?

Just make sure you are clear that you need absolute proof. For example if your shipping to say Brazil the Item number they supply you with is not proof of shipping and there is no registered mail etc to that location. (on small parcels that is) I have found recently that if you post an item say under 1Kg to many locations. Russia, South America and probably most of the world....If the buyer claims the item is not received you have no come back at all. To most of these locations you can not use a trackable service by Australia Post unless its a large parcel. In the last 6 mnths I have had around 20 buyers internationally claim non receipt of parcels for which I had to refund. I have recently removed from my list of locations I will post to around half the world. The worst I have found are South America, The Russian Federation, Spain, Indonesia.

Using click and send is still the cheapest way to post without paying for signature on delivery.
When you lodge a C&S package over the counter and it is scanned you get the lodgment receipt and THAT is you protection with paypal if buyer open not received dispute.
All you need is to email/fax a copy of that to paypal and you are protected.
And as seen here paying the extra for signature does NOT mean it will happen.

so if I pay for sod and aust post doesn't get a signature then do I lose a paypal claim?

Not if you can prove postage.
All you have to prove is the item was posted and that is where click and send gives you seller protection.

if I want to use prepaid bags, does that count if I pay for signature? And aus post doesn't get a signature?

Gary - when selling internationally different rules apply for seller protection on different ebay sites as some countries have the ebay buyer protection policy which overrides the Paypal Seller Protection Policy.
For buyers who purchase from the US and UK sites proof of delivery is required - proof of postage as mentioned by others is not sufficient for Paypal protection for those buyers.
You will also find that many buyers from other countries, such as Russia, often register on the US site and make their purchase when logged into the US site so proof of delivery is also required in these instances.
As a general rule registered international post is trackable on the US, Canadian and UK sites so that can provide proof of delivery if required. Registered International Post is also trackable on many other international postage sites.
I generally don't have too many problems with parcels going astray to International Buyers but I have noticed the US buyers in particular get very panicky if they are unable to track their item.
