who is in the right ? I have done nothing wrong

Hi all need your opinions please

I sold a dress a few weeks ago to a lady when she recieved it she said she was dissapointed and that it looked washed and worn and the wrong size , I listed it as a 16-18 because it is stretchy fabric ,,but I forgot to put in the measurements in the listing , now she is saying it doesn't fit her and wrong size but I am a size 16-18 and it fits me. the item is new without tags and hasn't been worn.

So I went and looked at her facebook page and she is clearly not a size 16 but she insists she is, all was good until she found out that I went on her fb , and responding to the positive feedback she left me and told her  that she was in deinal.

I told her that clothing sizes differ and she should have messaged me first for measurements before she bid

Now she has put in a paypal dispute last night  because of the facebook thing and that i was rude and now she wishes to pursue it further and saying it's illegal to look at facebook  I told her it is public and anyone can look at anyone on there and wasn't a crime.

now paypal has put aside the money for the dress  , positive feedback left for me on the 5th of may

Thanks

While it is not a fact that the customer is always right if you want to be a good seller you never let the buyer know that you think they are down right wrong, if you can defuse the situation with a kind word or a very small refund then is it really worth the angst, the time taken and the risk that you can make yourself look very bad being personal and very critical in feedback replies. Time is money and between searching facebook, emailing the buyer, coming here and complaining I should imagine you have probably used as much time at minimum wage than a full refund would have cost.

A happy customer is what every seller should want and while you should allow nobody to walk all over you there are ways of dealing with things that don't have a negative impact  on either you or the buyer.

Repeat buyers are worth there weight in gold and if you can get one for a couple of bucks and/or a kind word why wouldn't you use that optiion.

I haven't come on here complaining just wanted peoples opinions , and I did not email the buyer and actually it didn't take up  much of my time.  Of course I (everyone) wants happy customers I'd rather loose the sale and have  no bids than have a drama like this out of a single dress. It's a 2 way street with kindess they be nice and I will be nice if they be rude I'll definately let them know about it . I try my best and it's hard when a customer is rude in the first place (I encounter this in my job but who doesn't ). but that's something I need to work on people skils!

Here is a buyers opinion-

Posts 12 and 15 says it all. I am not trying to antaginize you, only leave you an opinion.

It may not have taken up much of your time but a lot of people have dedicated their time to assist you. It is only fair that you take the time to thank them.

But what do I know...Smiley Wink

Re: who is in the right ? I have done nothing wrong

I'm a buyer usually, not a seller, and my take on it would be that you could be right, she may be a larger woman, possibly a size 18-20 more than a size 16, but you will never win any brownie points telling someone that.

The main point, to me, is did the frock have a size tag inside it?

If it had a size tag that said 16-18, then all you need to do is stick to facts and say you advertised it as 16-18 as it was labelled that way and has never been washed, but yes, unfortunately sometimes sizes can differ from brand to brand.

If it has no tag at all, then 16-18 is just your subjective opinion. It is only my subjective opinion but to me the frock did not look like a size 18.

It is unusual for frocks to be labelled as more than one size. If a tag says 16, for instance, it would be madness to claim it is 16 to 18. You could claim it is size 16 & stretchy and just leave it at that.

I've bought things in the past that haven't been a perfect fit but have never complained as the tag matched what was in the ad so it isn't a seller's fault.

In your case, if the tag says 16-18 i would stick to my guns and say it was exactly as described.

If it has no tag, then negotiate something, but be tactful as no one likes to be told they are fat or a liar. She could very well have some size 16 clothes in more generously sized brands.

Re: who is in the right ? I have done nothing wrong

It's quite sad about this whole fiasco. The problem is that sizes vary so wildly over garment brands, and body shape can make HUGE differences in size.

Small shoulders and large breasts can fit into a smaller size than a lady with the same measurements but large shoulders with regular or small breasts.

Also, the size gap between 16 and 18, or 18 and 20, all is my experience is huge. The smaller size is often too tight and/or can't be done up, but the larger size falls down etc and needs to be taken in.

I recently bought a couple of pairs of long shorts in size 18 and they were smaller than the three size 16's in my wardrobe. Go figure!

It's not wise to F/B stalk someone and shove it in their face. She may be fatter than she thinks, but being a smart#rse about it is asking for retaliation, even if she deserves telling. Better to bite the tongue and ask for a return(trackable of course) and see if she is legit.

I buy size L and I am a size 14, I think you'll find XL is size 16.

As someone has already said, every label of clothing is different with their sizing, but here is a chart I found on the net..
