I am wondering why ebay are now putting a 10% fee on postage. I always believed that ebay's policy was not to rip the buyer off with excessive postage prices. Why then are they charging postage fees. We have to put all our prices up to cover the costs. So in the long run it is the buyer that is paying the postage fees. Who's ripping the buyer off now?

Because once ebay have also taken their 9.9% of your handling fee, it's not enough to cover the increase.
I have calculated that you'd need to add 11.1% to the total amount paid in order to recover ebay's 9.9% FVF.

One good thing it has done is force me to sell in other places other than just ebay, i've stepped right out of my comfort zone. I've gained a whole lot of knowledge which I'd never have imagined doing without ebay's ever increasing fees and charges.
I've also listed on a couple of other auction/sale sites. Ebay still drives the most traffic, but if ever it doesn't I'm ready to go!!!

Gee, wow, dear me... you are right!
I'll rephrase...
"why don't you add 11.11% to your postage as handling fees?" :))

One obvious one is quicksales.. i havent tried there but ive read on here alot that its not worth the bother as sales are almost non existant
I too am keen to spread my wings but im not sure where to go, or whether its even worth it

We listed some of our stuff on QS in the past few weeks. Seeing a few clicks but so far not a single sale.
We made a mistake on our first listing and tcked an option to remove our phone number from the listings. We dont want calls.
But didn't realise till later that this tick had just cost us $10. We couldnt see anything nearby the tick box that said cost = $10.
So we had to do it another way and then plead with the admins to re-credit our $10.
They did so but only after a few emails back/forth.

Selling things on ebay like books which weights over 3kg. If the book is solf for $5 and the postage will be like over $20. I will end up losing lot more to cover for the greedy ebay fees on postage which I think is totally unjustified.

try 1c postage and a higher sale price to see if things sell better that way
These little $1.60 and $1.34 postage fees add up. To sell things, you just have to absorb the fee as o/seas pricing always wins with their cheaper postage rates if you tinker with the prices that are working atm.
