Why does Ebay charge a fee on postage costs? We do not profit from this. I charge the exact fee it costs to send an item domestically, this is to be fair to the buyer. And this is also automated by Ebay as it makes uploading process easier. Ive just discovered that on the final postage fee of $8.50 (for example) Ebay take 93 cents? What purpose does this serve other than ripping off the seller? With both paypal and ebay fees on top of this i am out of pocket. Its already a struggle to sell on ebay. Literally ill sell my items somwhere else.

I can't name the sites as there are numerous dissillusioned trolls here who think they will get special favours from ebay by defending this place-some of these have already replied to this thread
May I ask the obvious?
If you have never looked back...how is it that you're posting here?

the apple tv you have for sale is an example-picked up a stack of these (10 of them for $5 each) all boxed, sold them for half of what you have on them-still made a profit and undercut you and other sellers

Yes But PayPal offer a service - they collect the money so I can understand that fee.
But I do not buy my postage on eBay because when you purchase on Australia Post you receive a discount if you post 5+ parcels a week.

Same major city
There is no reason for eBay to charge I think it is about 9% on postage.
Even if you do buy your postage on eBay, eBay would also get a discount from Australia Post
The postage fee is definitely a NON SERVICE FEE
And I agree if you offer Free postage - you have to factor the postage into your price which you pay fees on - so they get it either way.
eBay are big on saying not to rip buyer off with postage, maybe they need to take that approach with sellers.
I have always been honest with my customer regarding postage costs and the other day I refunded a buyer postage and it took about
1/2 hour to get my credit back from eBay. A total waste of time.

Just another opportunity for them to fleece sellers. I cancelled 2 sales last financial month, every other time I've done it, it goes through within the hour, sometimes within minutes. But these 2 sat there for a good 2 weeks until I received my invoice, then the cancellation approvals came through immediately after. So the fee credits went onto this months invoice! lol no flies on them

Nobody is forcing you to sell here.
You could always open a B&M shop. Then you'll find out what it really costs to run a business. Unlike eBay, or most online platforms, there are a lot of fixed costs that aren't sales related, and that you will have to pay regardless of sales.

How does it benefit you defending them? When they forced people to use PayPal was just the start, was that fair? I don't understand ppl like you getting all defensive unless you work for eBay.

Yes, it was fair because then both buyers and sellers had a degree of protection, and as far as I'm aware sellers had the choice of using Merchant Banking if they didn't want Paypal.

A laughable comment that new members to the boards often bring up if they don't like the answers given them.
Spoiler........and I don't work for eBay either.............
