Ebay charges too much to sell stuff these days they are cheating all of us and the sooner we all realise this and ebay alter their cheating practices and come back to a reasonalbe amount for selling figures (auction houses charge 10% and supply people for each sale) ebay don't supply staff the same way or at the same level of auction houses, there realestate requirements are less and they cheat hard working people out their profits by charging too damn much.
And I'll bet they don't leave this post up because they dont like to be criticised or show to be as greedy as they are. CHEATS AND THIEVES.

It ain't 15% stawks, try near 40%.
Most bigger auction houses charge people 15 to 20% to SELL the stuff and people 15-20% to BUY the stuff.
Sellers commission AND buyers commission.
They often lot the material in an indifferent fashion with no photos.
Often have high postage costs and not enough staff.
Overall commission rates 30 to 40 per cent of the total.
Auctions can be a mug's game, unless you are running the auction.

I just checked the fees of two of the most reputable auction houses in Adelaide which run weekly auctions specialising in estate clearance and antiques and collectables. I attend auctions at both of these companies quite regularly and they sell simliar items to what many ebayers offer and have specialist collector auctions on a regular bases. Both offer online catalogues and online bidding so are as comparable to ebay as a B & M auction house can be..
Scammells Auctions in Norwood charge
* $2.00 per lot sold listing fee. ( Higher than ebay )
* 18% sales commission + GST totalling 19.8% sales commission ( around double ebay's fees )
* 15% + GST total 16.5% buyers premium ( you dont pay that on ebay )
Small & Whitfield in Unley charge
* 19% plus GST total 20.9 % sales commision
* 15% buyers premium
I often attend farm clearing sales. These do not have internet bidding available, but phone bidding can be arranged. They usually have a few photos and listing of the main items of equipment available to view online, but no catalogue or auction numbers. Fees for these auctions are by negotiation but start at 10% commission for large auctions of very expensive equipment. Buyers only pay 10% gst on top of their auction bid. ( equel to ebays selling commission for non GST registered sales ). Vendor pays all advertising and promotion costs on top of the agents commission fee. They sell small items, household furniture and antiques and collectables, BUT they also sell large items of plant owned by the same vendor. These large items of farm machinery can bring $150,000 - $500,000 each and 10% commission of these items soon averages out for the smaller ones.
Basically the OP is either telling porkies with his figures of 5% selling commission quoted in an earlier post or they are dealing with some very amauterish, unproffessional, fly by nighters at the very bottom rung of the industry.
Either way these genuine figures quoted above show ebays fees are an absolute bargain compared with other forms of proffesional B & M auction houses.

there is a service aspect to Ebay do not have
But there is a servers aspect, it must cost ebay hundreds of thousands to run the number of servers needed plus a large number of staff to run the it departments, help centres and all else that goes with an on-line business.

Just like nobody forces you to not drag up old threads, nobody forces you to sell on eBay.
I'm sure eBay won't mind if you sell elsewhere, nor will the majority of board members. Especially if it means less dead threads being dragged up to add nothing of any use.

ebay charges too much and that's all there is to it.
Please, show me where I can sell cheaper yet still have this many active buyers, a checkout process, and a website I don't have to look after.*
FBM ain't it, GT ain't it, Amzn ain't it.

* I'll admit, the website could be better.

Totally agree. eBay used to be one of the best platform for guys like us and just want to selling something no longer need, or run a small online stores. The current eBay charges too high on the fees. I didn't notice the fee's until I sold a jersey for $40AUD recently. But when I checked the fees and eBay charged me $5.36AUD. That's over 10% fees and not mention the free postage will cost me another $10AUD. So I decided will no longer to list anything on this platform anymore.

Good idea by the sound of it
The fees are shown before going ahead the listing
There is no such thing as 'free' postage
This thread is almost 5 years old
You still have three listings with 'free postage' up at the moment
Hopefully you fully signed up for Managed Payments before you sold the one you already sold, or you won't ever get the money
And of course the hold on your funds as eBay see you as a 'new' seller, no matter how much you sold over a year ago
