winner want cancel

a person just won my item , now he wants to cancel as the postage i quoted wasnt enough to send to him in wa so put the correct postage , it was only another $4.70 as i quoted only $12.00 i usally put the postage is a quote only but on this sale i forgot to put this

this is the only problem i have on ebay and thats the postage costs

this is in a satchel addressed to him

so now what do i do? i said i wasnt happy about this and pointed out it was only another $4.70 to send this too WA, WHEN I DO SELL SOMETHING WHAT POSTAGE DO I QUOTE? as every state is different

i dont sell to overseas now as people complain about the postage from Australia people want you to post items really cheap?

Re: winner want cancel

I made a mistake once with postage and I just sucked it up! We are all only human but I thought since it was my error and not the buyers I pay for it. That is how I learnt too be more careful and check my listings, I remember it everytime that I paid for my mistake.

However the customer was so nice to me after they got the item, messaging me saying they noticed they didn't pay enough in postage, and even offered to pay afterwards because they thought I was a decent seller because I paid for my mistake. Of course I refused to take the $5.20 I was out and this customer has returned several times and bought more items off me. So in the end paying for my mistake was a benefit as I got a loyal customer.

i added a note on the bid saying postage was a quote only and i would get the proper cost

when you put a note does the buyer see this ?

he may 'see' it but he also 'sees/knows' that eBay rules are that he only has to pay the quoted postage, Not one Dollar more.!
a Seller cannot change the eBay rules to suit themselves.

If it was "only another $4.70" for the buyer, then presumably it would have been "only another $4.70" for you also. So why were you so unhappy about it?

Re: winner want cancel

It is probably too late now but you should do the right thing and send the item for the quoted postage amount. Many ebayers woud refuse your mutual cancellation thinking quite correctly that as you had done the wrong thing you deserved to lose the final value fee. They wil probably most likely leave you a neg as well.

It may be a good idea if you belatedly went and read up on the ebay policies as related to seling on ebay.

Re: winner want cancel

i can send anything up to 3kg to anywhere in Australia for $12.00.

As has been noted, postage is not supposed to be a lottery for the buyer. If you quote a postage cost, you honour it. if you don't know how to set postage costs, you ask here (and get people like me bagging you, but ultimately giving you facts), or you use eBay's postage calculator.

HOWEVER, if the item will fit in a 3kg satchel, even Australia Post's standard satchel goes for $13.40.
