wondering about why sales are slow read this.

Mentioned this in a post but just wanted to highlight the article,  especially after reading the November Sales post.  I dont make excuses for why my sales are slow and Im sure others dont either but there has been some noted ebay activity (or lack of i guess)  where it seems more likely their pages simply arent being viewed  because noone can see them.

From my googling, Safari looks like an Apple browser which runs on McIntosh computers

Re: wondering about why sales are slow read this.

Hmmm some very interesting comments & analysis there !!!!

Could explain why we're all going broke & someone is getting richer !

I use bing & never see any ebay listings advertised here

Once upon a time on google you couldn't find what you were looking for outside of items on ebay items  because there were so many ebay listings hogging the first pages, not sure if that is still the same as I haven't used google for a while now...didn't want to sign up to their new useage agreement..

If what they are all inferring is correct, & it makes sense to a lot of sellers I'm sure, then we are throwing our money & goods away basically.

Bit sad but not unusual in this day & age sadly......morals ? scruples ? integrity ? does anyone remember those words.....oh, I see, they have been relegated to the obsolete basket, forgive me I should have realised.

Re: wondering about why sales are slow read this.

I often read that website's articles both with interest and a grain of salt. Much of the hypotheses are logical and make sense, but at the same time they're often based on anecdotal evidence, hearsay and assumptions, and ultimately the articles are speculative rather than conclusive (which, IMO, lends itself to simple suspicion and conspiracy rather than good old fashioned knowledge based on hard facts).

I believe there's a measure of truth in the contents, but the articles ultimately don't give me much info I can work with, leaving me with more questions than answers. :8}

Actually, just out of curiosity, where or how do these people acquire or find this 'Omniture report' which shows which browsers are accessing a sellers listing ?

It is obviously an ebay tool or report, but I cannot find anywhere that you can subscribe to it to do your own 'weighing up' of traffic to your listings.

It has obviously been going on for a while, the ebay link below dates back to april 2012. this link was on the above site.

Re: wondering about why sales are slow read this.

It has been very slow; not many lookers and hardly any watchers, but when I listed this weeks one item at about 1/10th normal price it got hundreds of visitors, many watchers and dozen of bids, albeit still not anywhere near my normal price, but it is getting close to cost, which is fine, I just wanted to get rid of it, and it still has more than day to go.

If the lack of traffic was simply due to glitches this item would not be seen by any more people that my other items are.  i think people are simply not spending; they are trying to pay down their CCs.

Of-course, in the USA and Europe people are worried about their jobs, if they still have one.

suitcase, I think you need to have a store to access the reports. They are in My eBay under the Account tab > Marketing Tools > Reports > Traffic Reports.

Re: wondering about why sales are slow read this.

i think definitely people are spending less yes, and you shouldnt use the article as an excuse,  if you arent selling you need to try some new tactics or be patient.  I was just about to reduce some of my items but then all of a sudden sold one at full price,  however I have added some auctions and its at least brought in  some watchers.           But there has been strange activity,  obviously people are noticing the difference between glitches in the system and spending trends.   For a normally busy store to suddenly receive no traffic well thats quite different from say my page not receiving traffic.

Re: wondering about why sales are slow read this.

I am quite worried about all of the users who have Internet Explorer 8 (32-bit) installed on their Window XP machines. Yes, it's getting to be an old operating system now but many 1000's would still be using it (as I do on my 3-year old laptop).

As of a week ago, I can only see the first 11 gallery pics when doing a search. If you are running IE8, please check this to see if it is happening to you too. Clicking on the 'customise view' link in the top right does nothing and seems as though it is actually disabled.

I first noticed problems with Internet Explorer 8 for XP (32-bit) some time ago when using eBay. I stopped being able to respond to buyer messages in IE, including when I tried to respond through my email account. It wouldn't give a 'blank space' to type in. I contacted Live Help, but none of the trouble-shooting strategies worked. I have even tried downloading IE8 for eBay! This too was unsuccessful at fixing the glitch.

So, I started using Google Crome to reply to messages. Atm, I still prefer using IE for revising and creating listings, as I like the interface better.

I don't mind using two different browsers but, I wonder how many eBay buyers still have IE8 (not Vista, 7, etc.). Are they all experiencing blank gallery pics after the first 11? If so, this could account for a sudden drop in sales over the past week (for me, I don't know, as my store has been on holidays). It is possible that the first 11 sellers are getting most of the sales. I clicked on a few of the blank pics, but soon got tired of it.

I then put two-and-two together and started searching through Crome for what I wanted to buy, but many buyers would not think of this. Unless the problem is ironed out (which never happened with messaging glitch), it will continue to be a frustrating experience for the buyer.
