Thanks to jlb225oz for sending me this link
http://auspost.com.au/about-us/price-changes.html
I have also seen a printout that announces new prepaid satchels as of Monday March 5th. These replace the current red/white prepaid bags and are dearer BUT they do include tracking AND there is a 3kg-5kg bag. I really would like a 500gm -1kg, but no one in Aust Post listens to me.

When do the new prices come in, and are they cancelling the $5 under 250gm small packets all together?

2 April 2012.
Yes.

After hunting high and low for the new Click and Send prices which will apply from Monday April 2nd, and not finding any information, I emailed them...
Thankyou for your enquiry regarding Click and Send.
The price of the postage on the 500gram Satchel will be $6.20 and the 3kg Satchel will be $10.55, no change to the Flat Rate Boxes.
This information was launched through eBay this week.
I still can't find any information about the changes on eBay.
While I was at it, I asked if there was any way to turn off the instructions that get printed on the bottom half of every Flat Rate Box address label. They haven't got back to me on that one yet. Has anyone worked out how to do that?

sounds like a lot of stuffing around just to get a small saving?
Maybe if Aus post just put their prices up for international stuff comming in and dropped the local rates to a reasonable level, we might be able to compete on an even playing field?

I love the Flat Rate boxes, but I'll be rethinking the C&S satchels

Oops, I was forgetting who I was for a minute there.
Got an answer about not printing the lower portion of the Flat Rate Box label.
The second half of the A4 Page with the instructions as this stage will be printed. There is no fixed time frame to remove the instructions.
Not what I wanted to hear, but at least I can stop wasting time trying to work out how to avoid printing it.

I am also alarmed at the increase in Aust Post charges, and am actively looking for an alternative non Aust Post service. Can anyone recommend a courier service that operates in South Australia and distributes Australia wide.
Thanks,
Lynda.

Lynda, we're in Adelaide and use Fastway Couriers, but they are only really cost-effective to the capital cities. Their 3kg satchels are $9.20 each, and 5kg satchels are $10.95. You have to open an account with them and purchase a minimum of 20 satchels. They also have a range of colour-coded labels but we don't use them much at all.
They don't deliver to PO Boxes.
Their website has a postage calculator that you can use to work out the cost to send to a specified location.
