Thanks to jlb225oz for sending me this link
http://auspost.com.au/about-us/price-changes.html
I have also seen a printout that announces new prepaid satchels as of Monday March 5th. These replace the current red/white prepaid bags and are dearer BUT they do include tracking AND there is a 3kg-5kg bag. I really would like a 500gm -1kg, but no one in Aust Post listens to me.

Lynda, we're in Adelaide and use Fastway Couriers, but they are only really cost-effective to the capital cities. Their 3kg satchels are $9.20 each, and 5kg satchels are $10.95. You have to open an account with them and purchase a minimum of 20 satchels. They also have a range of colour-coded labels but we don't use them much at all.
They don't deliver to PO Boxes.
Their website has a postage calculator that you can use to work out the cost to send to a specified location.
Don't Fastway come under the Temando umbrella, Judy?
If so, at least on the other side, the satchels are free and you pay per post (a bit like C&S). AAE also run through Temando and they DO deliver to PO Boxes. And I think there's a significant discount going through Temando, too.

I haven't looked into Temando, Pete, so I'm not sure. But thanks for the tip, I might investigate when we get home from our long walk.
Handy to know about AAE - we have a friend who uses them exclusively and is very happy with them.

As a (former) bookseller squeezed out of the market due to rising postage costs and the crippling currency exchange rate, I've been saying for years that Australia Post is being primed for privatisation.
It's being run as a going concern with an emphasis on making profit rather than providing a service. Once it goes the way of Deutche Post the prices will go insane and it'll be adios muchachos.

Hi everyone
I sell books. My 500gm C&S satchels are already showing the increased postage price in my listings, but my 3kg C&S satchels are still showing the old price. I am hoping that on Monday 2 April, they will suddenly show the new price, but I am not altogether confident this will happen...
Can others let me know if their listings with 3kg C&S satchels are showing the new postage price? I'm not sure if its just me, or if I have to do some additional step.
thanks for any help

I was just on Ebay Australia Post Click and Send website this morning (2/4/12), paying for 2 x 500g parcels, price has increased by 12.8%, from $5.50 to $6.20 ($0.70), that is one big price hike. I knew the costs were increasing, but this much of a hike was a bit unexpected. I suppose it is still the cheapest way to post with protection. If only buyers had paid last week when auctions ended, might have beaten the increase for at least these 2 parcels.

I had no clue about the end of $5.00 parcel option or the increase in C&S rates! I have emailed C&S to ask why it wasn't emailed to all registered email addresses and/or why it wasn't on the message page which always pops up with other info! Am about to email Ebay to ask the same questions although I do know to expect an automated reply! At least I will have attempted to make a change for better communication in the future...especially when we have to pay all these fees/commissions.

Ok I confess I was ambivalent about this topic. After all we all know that AP increases prices in small increments 3 times a year. But this one BITES hard. I only post small parcels under 250g ... which means unless they are registered (only for items over $50), which I usually pay out of pocket they costed $5. Now with the canning of small parcel under 250g my poor buyers will have to pay $6.50! Outlandish indeed.
I have written to my local MP and encourage every online seller to do the same. The ACCC had a good hard look at AP in 2010 it is time to do so again.
Marian.

I also gave C&S a serve about their lack of transparency. We have known that this price rise was coming, but I couldn't find any info anywhere about the new charges. They should have had it in the Messages section straight after logging in, not useless old messages about flooding that occurred weeks ago.
I'm also peeved that there is no way to turn off the bottom half of the C&S box label. It's such a waste of paper. C&S have told me that they are not planning to remove it any time soon. That's not very environmentally friendly, AP!
