I was subject to a security breach through ebay. I have changed my ebay password and gone through all the security checks and now ebay wants to force me to change my personal email password!!!
I am happy to do what I need to through ebay with my ebay account but INSISTING I change my personal email password is wrong. Not anything to do with ebay.
Not happy with having to do that to get my account unblocked after ebay poor security ended up with my account used by someone else unauthorised.
I don't get it.

I accept there was a breach as someone hacked into my account and was trying to sell items.
However, after changing my ebay password and going through the security verification with ebay to ensure I get my account back secure for me - they insist they will not unblock my account unless I change my personal email password.
HOW DARE THEY

Perhaps they believe, or know, that your personal email account is not secure. Maybe the security breach, has originated via your
email account.

I find it hard to believe as no other problems with anything on the net or email related other than ebay. As mentioned before in another replay - how would ebay know if my personal email password is changed. If they can tell that then they have access to things they are not authorised to have. Not just on my email but for every ebay member. Sorry but do not accept this.
My personal email is up to me to update as I see fit, not ebay.
Amazon, Wish, Alibaba......plenty of other sites without unreasonable demands.
Ebay is likely to lose me as a member because of this.

HOW DARE THEY
Get them to call you via:
This gives you their direct links without having to go through their rigmarole:
https://www.ebay.com.au/help/home ,
Just keep in mind that the Call option is only available during business hours,
(8 am to 9 pm Mon to Fri and 8 am to 5 pm on Sat and Sun).
At the bottom is Have us call you ,(which is the best option as then you know you will be talking to them).
I've never heard of that as they will not know your pasword so you could tell them you changed it and they
wouldn't know whether you did or not.
To me it sounds like a scammer trying to access your Email account and if it is eBay they can suggest you
change it for security reasons but I've never heard of demanding it.
How where you hacked and did you tell them that it involved your Email address?
Make certain you tell them the full story and that you changed passwords, etc.

I have been on the phone to them.
After clarifying the breach (someone tried selling items using my account) they then stated they would not unblock my account unless I change my personal email password. This was never mentioned until that point. When I protested and said I was happy to redo any security measures specific to ebay they outright refused to unblock my account unless I changed my personal email password.
That's when I said sorry but not up to you to insist on this.

Did you speak to a supervisor?

They will not know when you have changed your email password, but there is no point in them unblocking your ebay account,
if your PC etc is not secure. The majority of security breaches occur via personal email accounts, with malware hidden in attachments/links etc. Perhaps your password and email account details have been leaked into the public domain. One thing
is for certain, the security of the ebay platform, will be many thousands of times more secure than your personal email account.
Ebay may be able to tell when your email account is secure, depending on what tell tales are available to them.
Many years ago, my email was attacked via malware. As a result my service provider shut down my email accounts, until I contacted them. The reason my account was shut down, was that it was being used to send DOS messages at a rate of
thousands per minute.

Why not just change the password as that will give you a more secure account.
If eBay believe that the hack came through your Email account then off course they want you to change the
password,(if it did happen that way then your Email account is not secure and the same thing will happen).
The password change is for your protection and theirs,(they are trying to help you from getting hacked again).
Changing passwords on a regular basis is what keeps accounts secure and it's recommended by all
internet security firms.
