Went to log in and it kept telling my password was incorrect. Eventually logged in through Google, only to find all my saved sellers and purchase history gone. What is going on?

You could try clearing cache and cookies then rebooting your computer, or try another browser. Other than that I have no idea, my purchase history and saved searches are fine.

I have since found out if you log in through another avenue such as I did (Google) it creates a new account. I tried resetting my password and that worked, but it keep the latest details including my old Ebay name (changed it to the Google one) and even deleted my credit cards etc. Nothing that cant be fixed, but so frustrating, just because I tried to sign in another way because it wouldn't recognise (for whatever reason) my old password that I have been using for ages.

It was probably a log-in loop that caused the original problem, which clearing cache and cookies usually fixes.

Yes, you must link your social media account to your existing eBay account first in order to sign in that way without creating a new eBay account.
If you are having trouble signing in, and using a private or incognito browser window allows you to complete the sign in process, manually erasing your eBay cookies may help. If not, try disabling enhanced tracking protection.
You may be able to sign in using the eBay app, then use the app to link a social media account to your eBay account. Then try signing in via social media account in your browser.
