I find it odd too and feel like it could interfere with delivery, such as when the address is scanned, how does the machine know that's not part of the actual address? I say this because of the issues I've had with Aus Post over the years. One time they told me a package was "stuck on loop in the sorting machine, probally due to it not being able to read the label and they'd have to wait for it to spit it out". I'd printed the label as I always do and when it arrived to the buyer, extremely late, they said there was nothing wrong with it so I don't know wether to leave the code or take it out.
As to why, could aid in automatically uploading tracking to the Aus Post app but I haven't seen a difference. Other theory is that when Aus Post see it's labeled eBay, they give it higher priority since they obviously have some sort of partnership for creating labels. Do know that anytime I order from another site, those packages get to me much quicker than usual, so many times that I feel confident in the theory.

I doubt it would affect the scanning - they scan the bar or QR codes, not the printed address.
The issue would be when the postie is delivering it.
