Why are some of my buyers being forced to pay on purchase and I cannot offer combined postage?

This is an ongoing issue that I have not been able to resolve, to the point that I now have to mention it in my listings that i do NOT have immediate payment selected on my items and if buyers are forced to pay for each individual item and are unable to request combined postage I will refund the postage difference afterwards.

Up until now I felt it was a minor inconvenice but lately it has occurred to me that if a buyer pays 4 x postage and then I refund the difference via Paypal...eBay still gets to keep the extra FVF on the extra postage I am obligated to refund.

Yes I have checked multiple times that I do NOT have pay immediately selected on my items for sale. How can I stop this from occuring?

I refund less aditional costs - eBay FVFs, Paypal flagfalls when they pay in multiple transactions.

There is no known way to fix it. It applies to some, not to others. It is unlikely that eBay will change it as they make more money this way.

I do not feel guilty about withholding the extra costs - it only takes a bit of negotiation prepurchase for a buyer to clarify what they want, the seller to advise a price and set up a listing specifically for the required items and the buyer to purchase through that.

I state that I combine postage. If the buyer can't ask for an invoice and goes ahead and buys and pays anyway, then they are entitled to a refund of what I deem appropriate.

This is the problem though - they want to use buy it now and request an invoice but ebay is forcing them to pay immediately for each individual item plus postage so they can secure it. I then have to refund the difference.

It has lost me sales in the past, and it's bloody iconvenient.

Fix this, eBay!!!!

Unfortunately... eBay is the one on the right.

I also have the same problem.

I also refund after the fees taken out.

I have also made a brand new listing with the items someone wants to buy. Then I just end those single listings.

It's a real pain, but just another hoop we sellers have to jump through.

I don't find it that onerous.

It takes about as long as working out what refund is due and refunding.

Ebay told us almost 18 months ago that it's eventually being rolled out to all sellers (immediate payment) so you'll have to learn to live with it. I have a note in my descriptions asking them to use the cart so that they can at least make a single payment for the total order and not cost me the extra 30c paypal charge on each item. Some of them see the link to request an invoice when using the cart, others don't.

Not so bad if it's one refund.

However, we had one the other day who bought over 30 items and paid for each individually.

So quite a few separate refunds as we refund only up to the total postage cost on each transaction.

And not even a thank you.

Re: Why are some of my buyers being forced to pay on purchase and I cannot offer combined postage?

Your BUYERS may have elected to pay as they go (automatic payment per purchase) unknowingly.....here's the steps THEY need to take:

Here's the steps about removing the automatic payment checkout:

1.Go to My eBay.

2.Click Account

3.Select Personal Information

4.Scroll down to Financial Information

5.Click Remove on the right side of Checkout Saved Payment Methods

....and I ALWAYS ring eBay & get my fees reimbursed.

I find that if the BUYER uses these methods they can then request a 'combined invoice'......UNLESS they're using an App.

I had a buyer who did not get the "request total" button because he was using a phone to buy, so I would presume this would be happening to others using phones.

Also in your account settings, do you have "allow combined payments" selected ?
