Because eBay doesn't support fingerprint identification, I would guess.

I tried it with my account and all I got was fingerprints on my computer screen.

Is it something you have used in the past to sign in that has suddenly stopped working? If so, I would suggest you would need to contact eBay and ask (NO eBay staff read comments here, despite the blurb that tech staff do, they do not)

If you purchased a device on eBay that has a fingerprint reader then you need to contact the seller for advice.
