eBay bug causes a bait-and-switch

I wonder if I've got the cause of this right...
I searched for a product and got an eBay page that listed a number of items perhaps merged based on ePID/UPC/GTIN/MPN with a product title from one of the listings as "2x Eagle BRAND Medicated Oil 24 Ml Liniment" and a Buy It Now button that when pressed, got me only 1x bottle. I didn't realise until it had been delivered.
Not the seller's fault, I think, but instead poor coding of a listing merge which didn't understand quantity; perhaps in the database the quantity is only implied in the item title?
I spent a long time chatting with "support" but all I got from that was a promise of escalation, which has just disappeared, so I despair of getting this issue resolved, let alone getting the bug in front of someone who might be able to do something about it.

I'm posting here to blow off steam; I used to get such dedicated support from the eBay Plus team, but all I get from that now is a yearly $30 voucher, eBay must have sacked all the eBay Plus support staff when they realised people mostly wanted discounts for their Plus membership, not a human touch resolving issues.
Phew. Steam blown off. Thanks.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get satisfaction here or should I just move to Amazon?

eBay bug causes a bait-and-switch

I believe you are correct -- you were looking at a product page rather than an item page, possibly reached by searching using a search engine rather than searching on eBay. A product page is like a catalog entry where all the individual item listings with that part number are linked -- this is done by eBay based on the part number the seller uses, but the seller has no control over the product page, and often the seller has no idea the product page exists.

In many cases, the wrong product (or product quantity) is linked to a product page, which is one reason never to rely on a product page when placing an order -- always click through to the original item page to see what the seller has listed to make sure it is what you are looking for.

Not sure what your recourse is, because if you look at the item listing linked to your purchase history, it likely specifies that it was for a quantity of one -- and the seller never claimed otherwise. The problem is likely an error with the product catalog, unless the seller specified the wrong product number in the original listing.

There is an email address you can use to report catalog errors; that may fix the incorrect linkage, but will probably not help with your current situation: sdsupport@ebay.com

I forgot the evidence for my rant.

2x in big print up top, click Buy It Now and you'll get the 1x item from the bottom right.

Did you open a case for Item not as described and escalated it before it timed out?

If you open an Item not received case because you only got one instead of 2, then they can prove delivery and you will lose.
