Re: Changes coming soon to eBay.com.au (14/03/2011)

but what is going to happen when the Basic Store Merges with the Featured Store - Does this mean we will all be paying the $99.00 per month Featured store fee as it is now? Not this little black duck!

Instead of getting all flustered, wouldn't it be easier just to read the announcements, which clearly state that the Store pricing level that is being discontinued is the $99 one?

Stage 1a - Make both Basic and Featured Stores cost $25

(so there is no $99 store any longer)

End of Stage 1 - Basic stores can continue, or upgrade "for free" to Featured Store

Stage 2a - Discontinue the Basic Store.

Stage 2b - Automatically upgrade all Basic stores to Featured Stores (at same price of $25)

End of Stage 2 - all Stores are either $25 Featured or $500 Anchored

It's not that complicated, really 🙂

Hi all, I'm a bit worried about the cancellation of the basic store (currently $19.95 p/m) and the "forced" upgrade to featured ($99.95p/m) I can't see how the smaller businesses can benefit financially from this upgrade. Could someone please shed some light on this for me? Thanks

Re: Changes coming soon to eBay.com.au (14/03/2011)

Hi all. I sell guitars which average $1000. When i first started selling EBay were taking around $38 for every $1000 i sold, Now it is going to be $80 for every $1000 i sell. Plus the fees they make out of PayPal, Plus they have there own exchange rate which they make more money if you buy from the USA which a lot of people are unaware of. So to cover the extra fees my stock will be going up around $50 for every $1000 guitar i sell, Which means i sell less on eBay, And I buy less on EBay because my stock takes longer to sell, In the end  eBay don't come out any better off, but i come out worse off because of less sales. I will still be using ebay, But From now on i will be looking for alternative ways to sell my gear so i can get out of paying these fees. What goes around comes around. Thanks EBay you really look after your members..

Automatic 5-star detailed seller ratings (DSR) for Communication.

The problem with this is that a lot of buyers don't read the descriptions.

They will ask a question about something that is already stated in the listings. e.g. I have clearly stated in large red letters (it's impossible to miss) that I do not offer pickup.  Yet, I still get messages like, "where are you for pickup?"  or "can I pick it up?"

It's hardly fair for sellers to miss out on the automatic 5 star rating because the buyers simply can't be bothered reading the description.

The point is that it doesn't matter why a buyer asks a question, or what the question is, but that as soon as they do you need to communicate with them independently, and that eBay can't award 5 stars automatically for your communication if they don't know (and/or control 😉 ) the nature of it (which they do if only automated emails have been sent).

No further proof needed that people don't read things properly.

Is that a jibe at me, or yourself?

How about explaining it - promise to read every word. 😉

All I was saying is that I don't get why anyone would suggest it's unfair to have the communication rating in the hands of buyers (instead of eBay) when you actually have to communicate with them, regardless of the reason why you have to communicate.

Sorry digital, no it was not a jibe at you.  I messed up my post & lost most of it.

I was referring to several of the posts on this thread where people obviously have not read the announcement properly & getting themselves all in a tizz because of it and are on here asking questions about things that are clearly explained in the announcement.

Not too much difference between them & buyers who don't read descriptions is there?.

What I should have said is, that going by some of the above posts, what further proof is needed that people don't read things properly.

No offence intended just an observation.

I was not saying it was unfair to have the rating in the hands of buyers.  I was saying that it was unfair for us to lose out on the 5 stars simply because they choose to ask a question.

Ebay should not be the ones to judge whether a seller has good communication or not.

It never ceases to amaze me that when there is a problem Ebay don't want to know about it.  They keep saying that they are only a medium for people to buy & sell things & that they can't interfere & buyer & sellers have to work things out between themselves.

If this is so, why on earth do they keep interfering with everything & making it harder & harder for sellers to have any control over anything.

Sorry that last bit was a rant so you don't have to read it.
