I think this new charge imposed on buyers who purchase items in the US is a real scandal! As an average french buyer who loves US items, I can no longer afford to buy because it makes the final amount too high for me. I resent this unfair measure which penalizes the average buyer........and eventually the average US seller!

You may be right CQ but I do know that US sellers do not pay FVFs on international postage even if they are not using the GSP.

They are a law unto themselves as to what they will and will not deliver...often their decisions have no resemblance to what Aussie Customs says are OK for delivery to Australia.
What about French Customs?

At a guess I would say the same applies to every country. If one country blocks an item PB blocks it going to every country.
I could only mention Aussie customs as that is where I Iive....I would not want to be accused of talking through my hat by other posters.

I am not a regular ebay user but I seem to remember it being faster, cheaper and easier to track purchases from the U.S before the introduction of GSP. I am currently waiting for a package which I believe should have been delivered in Aus by now. Supposedly left on forwarding centre 10 days ago

G'day dieseldan2006,
Shipping for the USA for me has become slower in the last 6 months or so ...as I used to receive my eBay "letters" with my ACEO artwork purchases in less than 10 days ...now it's more than 14 days.
The cost of my ACEO shipping before the Global Shipping Program was less than US$5 ...often a lot less ๐
Now the Global Shipping Program is charging anywhere from US$20 to over US$45 for these "letter" parcels.
My solution to the GSP is varied ...I start by contacting the seller to see if they can update the listing ...but this has been sometimes really difficult for the seller to understand ...as they don't always "see" what the GSP is charging for international shipping ...and many sellers just cannot understand eBay or get the listings to update.
I have one regular artist who I purchase from ...where I just go to Paypal and pay directly to their email ...then mark the listing as "paid" on my purchase history.
So where a seller cannot alter the GSP ...and we have negotiated a shipping cost ...the seller can either send me a Paypal Invoice for the agreed shipping amount ...or supply me the email they use for Paypal ...which comes with all sorts of problems to communicate via eBay of course ...as eBay messaging stops the easy exchange of emails intended to stop off-site sales which puts buyers at risk ...pity it also stops genuine eBay sales being easily finalised.
I have had sellers cancel sales even after prior negotiated terms for shipping cost ...because of the difficulty in finalising the payment ...simply too hard to fix ...which means I miss out on adding their artwork into my collection ...and leaves me feeling like a child you bought candy for but then decided to throw it away instead.
End result of the Global Shipping Program on my eBay purchases ...very limiting indeed!!!
Regards,
Belinda ๐
PS. This is my "NEGATIVE FEEDBACK" >>>>> the Global Shipping Program Limits Sales <<<<<

I agree with you. eBay is too greedy- it is also taking full fees from postage- a total travesty as it increases seller costs. Sellers are getting negative feedback about postage costs also because of the increases and that effects seller ratings and toprated seller pergformances
Customer support for sellers is virtually non existant- it's like hitting your head against a brick wall. The other problem is the worst parrotting and non comprehendsion of the policies occurs if a seller complains- well the Nazi Party had policies- and that didn't make them good policies. And poor comprehension skills should not mean that a seller is faced with dealing with absolute pig-headedness of customer support staff.

I have been on ebay for many years and this GSP is the absolute worst. I collect replica firearms from movies and have purchased many without a problem as I always make sure to get a permit to import into Australia first. Since purchasing from sellers who now use this, I have had 3 replicas stopped, and the ones I am talking about are kits and not even put together. Also had a bottle of aftershave stopped and marked as a prohibited item HA! In all cases I get a complete refund, but the seller loses out. No money and the item does not get returned, and some of these have been worth hundreds of dollars.
I dare say Pitney will make a killing when they auction off all the siezed goods or they staff have some great freebies, who knows.
And of course not to mention that it costs three times more now to get stuff out of the US.

This has just ruined Ebay for me, I used to buy a lot of things from the UK and now the cost of postage is just ridiculous, and I can't even combine postage anymore when I want to buy multple items. I'm starting to leave Ebay and just go look in the actual UK online stores, it seems you can get items new now from the store for less than you get them second hand on Ebay. Recently I've had either free postage from the UK or about $10 postage compared to the $40 they want to charge me on Ebay. What a joke.
