eBay.com.au 'expired security certificate'...

I got this notice in Firefox when clicking on the 'pay now' link after purchasing an item (I got the same message in Chrome):

checkout.payments.ebay.com.au uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate expired on 4/11/2013 10:59 AM. The current time is 4/11/2013 12:25 PM. (Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)

What is the deal here? Is there a genuine problem with the ebay certificate?

Cheers!

Is the problem still happening? I have quite a few buyers who have not paid which is unusual

Re: eBay.com.au 'expired security certificate'...

Well typical of ebay not to know what is going one!!... here is copy of message I received from them..

Hello beautysecretfashion,

Thanks for contacting eBay about the buyer's problem with the check out.

I checked on this and saw that this is not actually a problem with you or the check out system. This has something to do with the buyer's end. We will need to ask a few questions from the buyer and with this, please ask them to contact us so we can check what is causing the problem.

Take care and enjoy your day!

Re: eBay.com.au 'expired security certificate'...

nevermind just noticed this:

@haicim

You may receive a message in Google Chrome about your connection is not private when you try browsing a website. The exact Google Chrome error will be NET::ERR_CERT_SYMANTIC_LEGACY. You receive this message because the website you are browsing is using an HTTP(S) certificate issued from a Symantec certificate authority and Google Chrome has already begun depreciating these certificate authorities.

Starting with Chrome 66, any certificate issued by Symantec prior to June 1, 2016 will be considered untrusted.

Starting with Chrome 70, all certificates issued by Symantec will be considered untrusted.

chrome 70 dev branch is already out, and many of the ebay domains still are using the old symantic certificate, so that is why.

please hurry up ebay and renew the CA's.

Re: eBay.com.au 'expired security certificate'...

If it is indeed the same issue as the one this thread is about, that means eBay have done nothing in almost FIVE YEARS.

Which means a few more people would have had the issue. Or it is a new iteration of an old problem. Either way, I wouldn't be holding my breath.
