Hey folks, the ai bot is useless and won't let me through to a person so I'll ask here....
I bought something. It arrived. Its completely the wrong thing, which seller admits/confirms.
They want it shipped back, but claim they can't generate a shipping ticket, so they want me to pay for shipping and they'll pay me for it via PayPal.
Seems Hella scammy to me unless they're paying the shipping to me before I send it.
Should I just wait and ask Ebay to step in to sort it?

Open and item not as described immediately.
INAD.
Don't bother contacting the seller - let eBay deal with it.

If it's the person that left you feedback, they are registered in China and they can't provide a postage label anyway.
Open a dispute with the MBG and escalate it as soon as you you can, do not close it until you have complete satisfaction.

I see you're registered in New Zealand and the seller usually sells on the US and UK sites.
Did you purchase on this, the Australian site, or the US site ?
If it was the US site, log out of here and open the dispute on ebay.com

I've opened the dispute (did it the second I opened the package). I think I have to wait until tonight or tomorrow before I can ask Ebay to step in. Thank you all for confirming that's the best move forward.
I checked the shipping from NZ and it would be like 40$ (the part they've sent me is much cheaper than that) so their initial request seems even more suspect....
The purchase and the dispute all seem to be on the ebay.com.au page - but yes, I can see they normally sell on the US page. I think it's sold it to me as a guest because I have to use the order email to go to the purchase - it doesn't appear on my account when I'm logged into the AU or USA page using the same email and details.

" I think it's sold it to me as a guest because I have to use the order email to go to the purchase - it doesn't appear on my account when I'm logged into the AU or USA page using the same email and details"
Presuming it's the seller who left you feedback.
Has the listing been removed ?
Go to your Purchase History page and make sure the See Orders > drop down box options are set to the correct timespan.
The seller couldn't have left you feedback if you purchased as a guest

I am glad you're going through an official ebay claim for an item not as described. Stay on top of it.
Yes, it is a bit suspicious the seller asked you to return and they would reimburse you later, if the cost of return is more than the cost of the item.
I suspect they were trying to disencourage you.
Stick with the ebay claim. If ebay asks you to post it back, try to get onto a real live ebay rep (it takes time but can be done) to explain as you may be able to get a refund without returning it. I am not sure. I am a buyer & haven't had to go through this process.
But I have heard some sellers will elect to just refund and forfeit the item rather than arrange and pay return postage.
