From pickup to postage

I have sold two items that I originally had up for pickup only. The buyer wants them posted which I am happy to do but I cannot change the form of pickup or delivery now as I’ve already accepted the offer for sale. Should I just cancel the order and let them know to re purchase it through a new listing with postage enabled or is there something else I can do. There would be no way of me being able to scan their pick up code either as they are interstate. Thanks !

Re: From pickup to postage

I had a transaction where the buyer had selected local pickup, but actually wanted the item shipped.

The item was listed with free shipping, so there was no need to collect any additional amount for postage, so I just asked them for their pick-up code - which they were happy to provide - and then shipped the item.

For clarification... you don't need to scan the QR code. All you have to do is enter the six digit code. The buyer's location is completely irrelevant.

"Should I just cancel the order"

Yes, cancel the orders immediately.

At that sold  price, it could  well be a scammer and as far as I know, the items  come under the prohibited / restricted items with Australia Post.

Re: From pickup to postage

Yes,  most definitely cancel but as your reason, tick something like problem with buyer's address.

Your  other option would be to message the buyer and say these cannot go via post, do you still want to go ahead with pick up or would you like me to cancel? Then you could put buyer request for cancellation as the reason. If no response to message, go with problem with address.

If you use those reasons, you won't be charged the ebay selling fees but if you say it was your idea to cancel, you'll be charged fees.

If you relist, maybe pit PICK UP ONLY in the title (at the end). Your titles all seem reasonably short so it should fit & buyers couldn't claim they didn't see it.

Maybe also in the description put Pick up only, no postage on this item, at the end. Might help avoid requests and wasted time.

Re: From pickup to postage

Except that after thanking me  (privately)  and letting me know  they'd never sold on eBay before,

the OP intentially went ahead,  relisted the items and appeared to 'randomly' pick  any type of 'delivery' and the items  sold again.  Irresponsible !

Whilst not  always needing a licence to own these items,  all states have their own different government regulations as to who can own them and what they're being used for as they're generally classed as controlled weapons.

IMO, it's very irresponsible of the OP.   I understand if others  think differently

At the time of writing this, all items  still showing as sold, not cancelled

Can't wait for the managed payments /  transaction hold thread.

Re: From pickup to postage

That is just asking for trouble.

Had they listed with pick up only & stuck to it, I feel they would probably have eventually sold these items.

You could be right too-if not signed up for managed payments or if they have not cancelled the previous sales, they could be in for a nasty surprise when the fees are due but they can't access their money.

People really need to read up the help pages before they madly start listing.

I am wondering if they are using ebay because marketplace didn't allow their ads. I tried to list an item a while back (Tommy Hilfiger men's PJ's, new in box) and it banned my ad, saying counterfeit product! I couldn't even take out the brand and post the ad after that. Weird.

So it makes me wonder if jmid has struck some type of block there too.
