20% off with Peter's of Kensington

If any buyers are interested in making a purchase from Peter's of Kensington, eBay are offering a 20% discount - valid until the 10th of this month.

It's a little annoying that I recently made a purchase from P's of K, just before the discount was offered!

Oh well. I do need some new chopping boards, and I like the look of those lovely Catskill boards (end grains, 11cm height, sustainably sourced).

(I think I may need a new cheese knife as well for soft-ish cheeses; the one I had has not been seen for over a month and I'm tired of Brie sticking to the sides of my non-cheese knives. Am I going to have to attach a new cheese knife via a beaded chain thing - like bank pens - to the cheese board? Or strip-search departing cheese-consuming guests?)

Oh, I'll be trying that runny cheese this week. (Thanks for the recipe. It sounds like the sinful accompaniment to macaroni. Mmmmm.)

Although I've not tried it, I do believe it would go well with macaroni. I think I need to try it.

I remember the first time I took it to work for weekend munchies (I always take something nice when working the weekend). Apparently one of my colleagues on that weekend is a bit of a cheese junkie (understatement). I had taken a ceramic souffle dish to reheat and re melt the cheese as the plastic plates that are supplied melt in the microwave (I found out the hard way).

I dished up enough that I thought would do the 4 of us for that coffee break. By the time I finished making my cup of tea, I went to grab a dorito and scoop up some cheese. The dish was empty. I then said "can I take it you like that?". "OMG, that was sooooooo good!". I then said I probably should heat some more and her face lit up like a Christmas tree. She was pregnant at the time and tried to tell me the baby wanted the cheese.

I went off work in June for foot surgery and she was only a few weeks away from maternity leave. My surgery was booked for the Tuesday, I worked the weekend before. I decided to take the runny cheese. At the end of the weekend, surprisingly there was some left, so I put the remainder in a bowl with her name on it and left a note on her locker to check the fridge. I knew I wouldn't see her again before the baby was born.

I got back to work after 9 weeks to find a note on my locker. Apparently she nearly went into labour when she found the bowl in the fridge! I knew I wouldn't be there for her farewell afternoon tea, but that pretty much made up for it. Her husband is a cheese junkie too, so she ate the runny cheese before she went home.

TL:DR, the cheese junkie at work approved......big time!

Tippy*toes, I nearly went into labour after making the runny cheese with macaroni. (I had to buy the macaroni as I can't make it using my Marcato Atlas. I could have done this with ravioli, but no, I had it firmly in my mind that it had to be macaroni.)

Now, bear in mind that I am not pregnant, so nearly going into labour because of a cheese sauce is quite a feat.

Oh, I found out about microwave-safe dishes and very hot things the hard way... In my case, just in my first year of uni, it wasn't cheese - it was my first attempt to make caramel. I was a late starter with cooking, and I made some embarrassing mistakes. You've never seen microwave-safe dishes/containers look like a tortured alien until you've tried making caramel in the microwave.

Anyway, today my boards arrived. Oh... mon   dieu. Unbelievably heavy - especially the "super slab". I may have gone overboard with ordering that. I've only just unpacked the round chopping board, and it's incredibly attractive. I can't really call it "exquisite", because it's so robust that "exquisite" gives a much daintier impression than is the case. It's the most beautiful chopping board I've ever seen, but what on earth was I thinking to get such heavy chopping boards when I'm not supposed to use my right hand/wrist for any lifting?

It's like trying to carry a tree stump. Even after my hand recovers, I'll have to be careful in lifting these; I run the very real risk of giving myself every possible hernia in the book.

Well, I know it's superb quality. It'll last not merely for my lifetime, but probably until our sun splatters like a sunny-side up egg in the heat-death of the universe.
