Bought an item then seller cancels my order and relists the item at higher price.

I recently bought an item (162694383815). Several days later the seller contacts me with the excuse that  there is an "unexpected stock issue on this item".  Apparently the "stock issue" didn't apply to the item once it was relisted for $10 more as they showed 5 available.  It seems that this is common practice with this seller as feedback from others shows a pattern of cancelling orders only to relist the item at a higher price. It also appears that I can't leave feedback for this seller. Why is this allowed?

Check the item number, that's not a valid number.

If you are trying to leave feedback for that item number you will not find it....there is no such item number.

Try going to your purchase history to find the item and leave feedback.

You can leave feedback it is just harder to find how to do it when the item has been cancelled.

Cancelled items are found if you go into purhases and scroll further down the page

boray, if you didn't get the item, or you don't want to buy it again at a higher price, why are you wasting time searching how to leave f/back?

Ovbiously it wouldn't be for any altruistic reasons, for the "good of others" - it's for the revenge only, a great antidote, a sure fire way to soften the blow - but euphoria of all that "power" is usually short lived.

Then the miserable realisation starts setting back in:

"I still don't have the item, I'm still too cheap to go and spend more money to get it"

Just forget about the bad f/back - not worth the effort in the end.

I don't know that it's fair to call the OP cheap.

They bought an item at a price set by the seller, who then cancelled the sale & shortly thereafter relisted it with 5 available, after telling the OP it was out of stock. Earlier feedback apparently indicates this is a common practice with the seller.

We could just as readily call the seller cheap, because he isn't willing to sell his item when it doesn't get what he wants, even though he's totally responsible for the listing.

Normally I would say to cut a seller some slack if there is a problem but I can see the OP's point. He suspects he has been lied to & this is not a one off.

Sure, it is not going to be 'good' feedback he gives but to me, this is the sort of case where feedback can be useful. As a buyer, I like to see recurring patterns, good or bad. It could help a buyer decide whether to bid or not.

Bold words from someone whose own feedback is "private"...

It's not a waste of time - feedback exists for a reason. If a seller is the sort of unscrupulous type who sells an iem, renegs claiming "out of stock", then immediately relists the same at a higher price, it's something other potential buyers should know - that's what feedback's for.

Of more interest is why the OP is unable to leave feedback.

OP is able to leave feedback.

It's just disappeared from their purchases further down the page into cancelled orders

performance, I totally agree with you in saying feed back is there to warn others.

But - just from reading the boards, it doesn't seem to be ever left for that reason - usually it's for personal gratification (retaliation) after feeling agrieved in some way.

Even when they get their money back - some people still feel the need to go on about it like a two bob watch

Also, as Ebay has very loose rules on that, anyone can write what they like (except swear words), so therefore  totally unreliable and inconsequential - just about useless, waste of space for all concerned.

We all know, most likely you included, that we fare just fine shopping on sites where there is no f/back at all.

Situation and opinions in f/back are not much more accurate even when happy with everything.

Example: a collegaue was gushing about her purchase, crowing for days about it - and when we finally got to see it - it was hideous!

She left a most glowing f/back, and of course, she liked it - that was the most important,  but can you imagine when someone else reads that, buys it and goes - ugh!!!!!

We are all different, thankfully, and our personal opinions count not a bit by and large to anyone else.

I NEVER am guided by f/back when shopping, buy what I like - and the worst it can happen is the seller is a shonk, doesn't post and the item is no good, either way I get the money back - end of story.

Most certainly not a dissaster of global magnitude threating the humanity, that requres all these ridiculous "warnings for the others"
