Buyer has asked if I can deliver the item

HI, I have a storage unit listed, as it is quite big it is pick up only.

I just had a message from someone asking if I can deliver it to her, cause she cant pick it up and would pay for the petrol. Shes lives in the next suburb to me.

I am not sure if I want to deliver it, my husband has a ute, but he is always busy with work and I want this gone asap, that is why I listed it to finish this weekend.

Anyhow if I deliver how much extra should I charge her? I was thinking $20 ???

Another thought - if your husband is not a removalist by trade, what happens if he does his back in or something?

Who would be responsible for that?

Access to her property and where she would want it placed is important for that reason too...how easy would it be for your husband to put it on her property, without it being too tricky.

Re: Buyer has asked if I can deliver the item

I once bought a dining suite where the seller advertised she could deliver.

It cost me $50 for delivery and was worth it as she lived about 40 minutes away.

She did ask me to pay for the suite via paypal prior to delivery and then I paid her cash for the actual delivery.

It depends on how much you want the sale and whether there are other people bidding on your item. But you will need to reply to her query quickly. If you do decide to go to the trouble of delivering, I would ask at least $40 and make it clear that delivery would have to be at a mutually agreeable time during the next week. In fact if you can, outline possible time schedules.

And as some people have pointed out, make it clear it is delivery only and not up stairs or anything else.

I would definitely ask for it to be paid for prior to delivery and someone here suggested you ask her to come view it prior to bidding and that sounds reasonable to me. If it is only a suburb away, she should be able to travel to have a look.

If you ask her for her address, you can google street view and have a look at her place, to see how easy delivery might be.

Re: Buyer has asked if I can deliver the item

Its like anything, whats it worth to you?

Do this you get a sale, dont do this you don't. Its about ambit negotiations. Give and take, nothing has a set value and rate. What a deliveryman charges is irrelevent.

How much do yo want it gone and how much effort can you be bothered with?

If it is a hard thing for you to do say no. If it is easy just do it.

The "what ifs ?" are probably only a minimal risk, and which are only likely to result in annoying inconvenience if they come to pass.

If you say yes she may bid, not win, but will help in boosting final price.

Sometimes doing someone a favour makes you feel good, not everyything is about $ and cents.

Re: Buyer has asked if I can deliver the item

We recently had to arrange pick up of a furniture item, it got tricky for us all to coordinate a time

for one reason or another - in the end the seller offered to deliver it which was terrific of them.

They would not accept any 'petrol money' for it. I guess they needed the item gone and they

were happy with the price they got (which I admit was creeping close to new and I was willing

to bid that because it meant not having to obtain and assemble a flat pack which is how the

new items come).

Some buyers might baulk at a $50 delivery charge. It is not hard to find out what Ikea would

charge to deliver a similar item (I think around $60 to $120?) and then buyer has to arrange

or pay for assembly of flat pack too.

But yes, everyone is different. Some sellers just want things gone, others treat it like a business

and try to account for/charge for every little bead of sweat. Curious to see what the OP ended

up doing.
