COD should be the only option for local pickups

I would love ebay to explain to me why they allow sellers to opt for PayPal only for pick up items ?
1.paypal affords the buyer no protection in this situation.
2.and what happens if you do pay with PayPal and when you go to collect the item its not as described, etc.... You ask for money back then the problems start.i can assure you not all sellers are honest.
The way its now allowed to happen the buyer is left hanging and a possibility of losing money.
Love to receive rational comments.
I have contacted ebay several times about this and its like talking to a rock in kigong.

I'm guessing that this post is for me so here goes.

COD is not what eBay uses,it is the seller who opts for that.

Cash On Pickup is available to use.

I have no problem with eBay policies.

If one chooses to trade on Ebay then follow the guidelines/rules/policies & it's all smooth sailing.

When one chooses to break/bend the rules to suit their own agenda then it can only end in tears.

When I signed up with my ID'S I agreed to follow those & will continue to do so.

Take it you were talking to me regarding the eBay terms, so I now bow out and wish you all the best, and leave you with a little tip!

Don't abuse the people who take the time to answer your queries, you wan't to talk to eBay - top right hand corner, Customer Support, and Do, please, let us know how you go with that.

Why bother!!?

Re: COD should be the only option for local pickups

This is what the Cash on Delivery (COD) option on eBay is for.

Australia Post

How Cash on Delivery works

Using Cash on Delivery is as easy as 1,2,3:

Lodge your customer's order at your nearest post office

The item will be delivered to your customer's nearest outlet and they'll be informed that they have a Cash on Delivery item waiting for collection

When they arrive to collect the item, we'll process a payment on your behalf and any remittances will be sent back to you via Money Order.

Option 1: Collection of Cash On Delivery fee and postage costs from receiver

$8.70 COD fee + cost of postage

Re: COD should be the only option for local pickups

COD may very well be as easy as 1,2,3 but it is very much a non-recommended method of collecting payment from buyers. Assume for example the postage cost is $13.80 and the buyer has a change of heart or fails to collect the item, the item will be returned to the sender after a period of about 2 weeks and they will be required to pay the COD fee and double the postage cost (a total of $36.30) before they can recover their item.

Additionally, in the past dodgy sellers have been known to send half a brick instead of the purchased item and the buyer ends up totally out of pocket - in some cases several hundreds of dollars - because the parcel must be paid for in full before it can be collected and opened.

COD is extremely unsafe for eBay sales and should be made a totally banned form of payment and the actual term COD stricken from all listings and replaced with "Cash On Pickup" only.

Re: COD should be the only option for local pickups

I  doubt many buyers would go for COD option. Paying $8+ for the fee and postage on top. Have to go to PO to collect and pay.

I was in the PO one day and a young guy at the counter had left his wallet at a concert and the concert organisers had send it back to him COD. That seems a reasonable use for COD. Organisers didn't want to pay the postage costs. Guy happy to get his wallet sent  back.

I only posted the COD info, as the  OP seems to think COD is the same as cash on pickup even though others advised him/her that isn't so.

I agree with you am*3 and I fully understand why you posted that info. However, I still believe that in order to remove any ambiguity, COD should be totally banned as a payment method on eBay, for the reasons which I stated above.

Leaves negs after being issued UIDs and saying sellers don't know how to use eBay ... Oh dear.

Stop trying to sound somewhat intelligent by using 'big' words yet not being able to spell "wright", "looser" and "lier". I will go ahead and ridicule you further in our private sellers group.

Thanks for the laugh

Re: COD should be the only option for local pickups

On the whole, I would agree cash on pick up is the most logical way to pay for pick up items.

But I have been ina  situation where a seller wanted paypal.

A few years back, I bought a kitchen suite, after the seller advertised she could deliver it (at an added cost). That swayed me as I don't have a trailer.

But she asked me to pay for the item via paypal and just pay her the money for delivery when she got there. I am assuming she wanted paypal payment upfront because she was coming a fair distance and didn't want to risk turning up here and having me either not here or deciding not to take the item. I can understand that.

I have a friend who bought and arranged payment on pick up, scheduled for 3 days later. She came down with a nasty case of flu and asked if she could delay pick up till the following week, but offered to pay via paypal immediately so the buyer would know she was genuine.

So there can be cases where both buyers and sellers feel comfortable using paypal in some pick up situations.

I agree. What a piece of work. Definitely someone to add to the special list. Had to laugh at the spelling though, some of my 6th class students could do much better. If I had been the seller I would have corrected his spelling mistakes for him in response.
