How can I get compensation from an item I bought on eBay for $500? The item stated the stickers were in "good condition" but they are in an appalling state; when I asked the seller to cover the replacement cost for a new sticker sheet he is refusing. I want to keep this item but I also want some compensation to cover the cost to replace the stickers which are $124.22 at their cheapest and I asked the seller only for $80, he is refusing to acknowledge that he delivered me an item that was not as described, instead insisting that it is despite photographic evidence and quotes from his item's description.

Given the set is "pre-loved" and that the seller is now very unlikely to give a part refund, perhaps getting another set of stickers is your best option. The ones below are presumably pretty close to the original ones and, unless you are a purist when it comes to Lego, would solve your problem at minimal cost.
Perhaps the seller was aware of these being available and was possibly justifiably taken aback at your demands for an $80.00 refund.

Not answering kopes here, just a general comment/question.
Those $7.95 stickers are replica stickers. For a serious collector, putting them on the lego might devalue the collection, I would have thought? If I had paid $500 for a collector's edition, I wouldn't be game to touch those stickers, put it that way. Might be better off leaving the tatty originals. I'm assuming some of the original stickers supplied were probably okay, some not so good.
But whichever way you swing it, the stickers are probably not worth $80 of the transaction to the seller so the buyer is probably best to just try for a return if unhappy with the overall deal.

a return might be difficult seeing as the item was picked up. Also, we don’t know if cash was paid on pickup. I would think that the OP would have mentioned a case had they been in a position to open one.

Paypal will cover some pick up items these days, although you're right, we don't know if the buyer paid by cash or paypal.
If in cash, then it's all done & dusted, especially since FB has already been left.
I'm wondering if these types of sales (expensive pick up items) might move over to mainly paypal payments in future.
