Hi everyone, Just a quick question. I want to buy couple of things here in Australia. However, I want them to be delivered to somebody in Africa. Is it possible to pay for the items here and get them shipped straight to overseas. Thanks

You will need to ask the seller before you bid/buy.

There will a difference in postage for a start and a lot of sellers will not post overseas.

And forgive me for saying so, but when Africa is mentioned a lot of sellers will refuse to deal with you as it so often means scan.

You may find yourself ignored and on a lot of blocked bidders lists.

Are you aware that Africa is a huge continent full of many different countries. To say that no one will send anything to Africa is the same as writing off the whole of Australia because one particular town is known for scams. I have had many successful transactions with fellow eBayers in South Africa, didn't even think twice about it. Not only do you appear to come action as a know all you seem to be happy to appear as a racist.

tvs04 it may be best to complete the transaction via PayPal and have it sent to you thus giving you protection against any problems. Check that all is okay and then send it on yourself. Thus ensuring you can send them what you know is what you want and to prevent any other possible racist backlash

Where did racism come into it? There is nothing racist about Lyndal's comment. Parts of Africa ARE known as being a haven for scammers and a lot of sellers won't post there for that reason. Not to mention that someone will list a phone (or similar), someone will make an enquiry, offer to pay more than what it is listed for, request that it be sent to Nigeria (or another African country), but they won't pay until after they have proof of shipping. If being factual is being racist, then we are screwed.

People really need to look up the true meaning of racism.

If one is going to write of a whole continent because of one country then it is unfounded bias. Call it what you want I just used a word that most understand. It should actually be called culturalist. Because it is the different cultural beliefs that separate the people of this planet.

To find out if the seller will post to the overseas address go to your account tab and add the African delivery adddress to your delivery addresses and then mark it as primary. Go to the item and attempt to bid/buy, if the seller posts to that country then your bid/BIN will go through, if it doesn't then the seller does not post there.

As you have chosen that address pior to bidding that is the only address the seller will see, don't forget to go back to your account and select your usual delivery address as prime.

To wilk.... How ridiculous to cry racism over factual statements about geographical locations and their corresponding postal systems. The overuse of the word renders it meaningless and stifles public debate. It is hardly a 'cultural' phenomenon that parcel delivery to certain destinations factually has more inherent risk. Lyndal didn't mention any particular cultural group or race in her statement, of which there are hundreds in Africa. To put in context it's also been discussed many times on these boards that sending parcels to Russia is problematic because of the corruption in their postal / customs service. Racism towards Russians? I don't think so, just a fact about their beaurocracy.

Like I said I have had plenty of successful transactions to South Africa. Writing off a whole CONTINENT is an unfounded bias. Russia is a country. Nigeria is a country

I know racism. I'm might have been born in Australia but I have had people make unfounded racial slurs about the Dutch many times in my life and when I tell them my last name is Van Der Wilk. They always say oh but I wasn't referring to you.
