Can anyone give me some advice or support on purchasing a loose diamond on eBay as I am a little nervous in handing over my hard earned money on an item so expensive and sight unseen.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated especially on sellers that come highly recommended.

I can only tell you what I would do. I am an extremely experienced ebayer who has been using ebay since it was only available in the US and I would never purchase anything over an amount of money I would not be prepared to spend hours, and possibly some cash, on getting my money back if it turned out to not be as described and indeed be prepared to write it off altogether if it was going to take up too many hours of my time to resolve. Plus of course there is the cost of returning it fully tracked and insured up to the full value even if it was a straight forward Paypal dispute that found in my favour.
It says in this book I am reading that by 2065 80% of women will be overweight.
See what a trendsetter I am?

My suggestion is to pay by PayPal or some other safe payment method.
Once you receive the item, get it independently assessed and valued.
If it's not as described, use your buyer protection and open up a SNAD
plus all the stuff PJ said ^^^

let me translate this bolded sentence for you:
pj would not buy anything on eBay if the cost was more than she would be prepared to lose. Do not buy diamonds on eBay.
Hope this now makes sense to you.

you mean to say that you don't hang onto every syllable that I write and commit it to memory in order to affectionately reflect on it's awesomeness over and over again?
