Why are we not permitted to Name & Shame?
If I perceived a threat that is real enough for the police why not ebay???
I and many people bought an item intended for a Christmas gift, yet from this item a waterfall of non-receipt claims began popping up. It was not possible to forsee that this seller was dishonest and stealing my money.
I agreed to close the PayPal claim as the threat i perceived was very real and intimidating.
PayPal and ebay are not concerned with illegal acivities of sellers and these discussion boards have appeared to be a place where others attack you for voicing concerns.
I wanted to share this experience with others to be attacked further.

Asking questions is not discussing previous content.
I am curious as to why there is no recourse for victimised buyers?
There is a recourse; first report the threatening message to eBay. There is a link on the message to report it.
You did the right thing to report the person to police.
But why did you cancel the PP claim? I know, you were scared, but if you re-open it, as you now seem to want to do, you will not be scared anymore? In that case call PP (as I already suggested) tell them the story, fax them the police report and ask if they could reopen the case. Considering that you closed under duress, they may do it, at their discretion. How much money is involved?

Discuss previous content all you like, but it is against board policy to discuss a deleted thread.
You started this thread asking why you can't name and shame, this is asking a question about why your thread was deleted; which falls under the category of discussion of deleted threads

Sorry,I don't get it.You are afraid of a seller in China but you state the following
I will only buy locally from now on as experience with outside avenues puts me, my livelyhood and family at risk!
I'd be far more concerned if the person was actually living local to me.
And that's just assuming that every foreigner is going to give you trouble if you buy from overseas..
There have been plenty of threads here in the past when buyers had been threatened by a seller in Australia.. Don't assume that everyone overseas is going to scam you and make threats as it's simply not true, and IMO downright offensive

I have lost all faith in Ebay and PayPal, I posted here to get some answers and the only response I get is from people telling me to "Harden up".
What do you expect PayPal to do? They're just a company who processes payments, they might have been able to recover your money had you not closed your dispute.. eBay can only help you if you give them information ie: reporting the sellers e-mails

If you went through all the appropriate channels and proceedures, ebay and pay pal will do what they are required to do.
But ebay and pay pal are NOT the police, they dont rush around in cars with guns and arrest people.
If you have been threatened and you take the threat seriously, the main people to contact would be the Police ( state or AFP ) and also seeing as you said that your company is under threat and also has offices in china, you should be contacting a senior manager or atleast the human resources department of your company so that they can take any appropriate actions or precautions.
By cancelling your pay pal claim, you have allowed the alleged threatening company win, and if what you say is true, they will be able to move onto other victims. The only way the law and rules work, is if people stand up and report crimes.

I can understand that it would be somewhat alarming to receive threats from a seller - even one overseas - but if, as you say, you have reported the matter to the Federal Police I don't understand what further answers or advice you can have hoped to get from posters on a public forum. What did you hope to be told?

You cannot be too frightened of the seller if you are willing to publicly slander them on eBay forum. :_|

mishliscious
I Sincerely hope you did not think i was in any way" attacking you further"
when I responded to your 2nd Posting this morning. I simply pointed out what the board rules are, eBay's rules, not mine, and suggested you self report the thread to delete it before ebay deleted it and marked your a/c with a 2nd Board Violation. that's all.
real or perceived, a threat is a threat but caving in to such threats and closing a legitimate claim against the seller is never the right thing to do.

Are you after a way to get your money back? Has anyone suggested a credit card chargeback?
If you funded your payment with a credit card, you can ask the bank to do a chargeback on the transaction.
I understand how you feel about the threats, I had a very threatening email once which caused me to end an auction early and lose money on the sale for fear that this person would win and therefore have my home address.
