Ebay's New Policies Are Ridicilous

Unfortunately ebay has decided to change it's policies for the worst this itme first we must contact the seller and wait for a few days the seller knows their selling faulty products and if i'm wrong then it's up to paypal to decide.

and now open cases will no longer count ??? oh thats great it's almost as bad as getting rid of the feedback system.

And now the worse offender...We have updated the policy to reflect our ability to remove funds from a seller's PayPal account in a currency other than the currency of the transaction at issue where the seller does not have sufficient funds available in the transaction currency.

That is the worst it may not mean much but it just means if the seller does not have money in his account or has canceled it then guess what ??? nothing they get to pay in yen or rubies wich is considerably smaller in amount.

Re: Ebay's New Policies Are Ridicilous

As far as I am aware the changes relate to the ebay buyer protection policy which is on the US and UK sites. It is not for the Australian Site.

As far as contacting sellers if there is a problem - that should be something which buyers should do automatically in the same way they would go back to a retail shop if they had a problem with something they had purchased from the shop.

Even if we sell on the Aussie site, the buyer protection policy applies to whichever country it's bought from. If someone from the UK buys an item from Australia, the buyer policy is whatever is on their site.

Okay, I'll go with the currency.

What that would mean is if the seller has Paypal funds in other currencies, those funds can be used to refund the buyer. Presumably at the going exchange rate, not 100 yen for $100, which would cause loss to Paypal as Paypal would have to refund the buyer for the amount in dispute.

Simple really.

Re: Ebay's New Policies Are Ridicilous

As already mentioned, the changes are to eBay's buyer protection program and means

if a buyer opens a case, the seller gets a chance to respond and resolve the issue before eBay gets involved and makes the decision. Can't see that as a bad thing.

and now open cases will no longer count ???

This is in relation to how a seller's performance rating is calculated. For every item not as described or item not received case that's opened, it basically damages the seller's standing on eBay (in the US, for example, but not in Oz). That can have pretty major ramifications and affect a seller's entire business - and IMHO should never have been that way in the first place, considering how frivolous some claims can be, so even though it doesn't affect me, I'm glad eBay are at least changing it so that only those cases closed in the buyer's favour count against the seller.

The only people who should be miffed about these changes are those that open disputes with the sole intention of 'hurting' a seller, and don't want to communicate with said seller in order to do so.

I also think it is a good move.

I agree ghost, only people who buy to only scam refunds are the ones who would complain about this change

Re: Ebay's New Policies Are Ridicilous

I agree, I would never neut or neg a seller before contacting and seeing if they will rectify or at least attempt to come to an agreement I was happy with. Why do some think it is okay to trash a seller over anything? If you bought a faulty item from B&M you would get in your car, spend the petrol returning it, yet on eBay all you need to do is message the seller - no cost to you and very little inconvenience. If the seller is uncooperative, then you consider feedback. No wonder so many sellers come here to gripe about buyers.

Re: Ebay's New Policies Are Ridicilous

I absolutely agree that they are a vast improvement, only somebody who does not understand the difference between the policies of the Australian site compared to those of the US and UK sites could think this was anything other than a much better, fairer system.
