Express Postage 7 days late SO FAR - can I get a refund?

Hello!

Have purchased a car part that I could not find locally. The FASTEST item i could get was in the UK - I am in Australia.
Postage estimated it would arrive within a decent time frame. Everything else was an extra week or two wait.

Item purchased 19 Feb. Estimated arrival 27-28 Feb.
So I threw $106.69 at Express postage (item cost $106.60 so the postage cost more than the part!)
It is now nearly 5th of MARCH and I still havent received the item.
There is no tracking (which is RIDICULOUS) and they have so far ignored 2 emails to them asking to chase it up for me.

IF the item arrives soon - Can I get a refund on the postage? I am happy to pay for the goods - but the postage has not been even close to what was advertised and the ONLY reason i purchased it was the for purpose of EXPRESS postage..

I have not taken any action against the seller yet. I do not like to leave negative reviews if they are not earned.
But I have yet to hear back from them about it. If it does not arrive by the 9th (end of this week) then i will be starting a claim.
I just wanted to see if anyone could tell me if its worth kicking up a fuss about to try get some money back or just leave a negative review and move on..?

Thanks, Matt.

That is the trouble with the estimated delivery dates, they are inserted by ebay and based on ebay's etsimates only, guesses that are rarely correct

Be that as it may, you are still able to open an item not recieved dispute, based on those dates

What a joke  International item  5 days overdue on what is purely an estimate for delivery.  If you want something quick, then dont buy it from overseas, even if you are prepared to pay express.  To many variables.  Did you confirm item was in stock and available for

shipping, what was sellers handling time, etc.  Then of course there is customs

Make that 3 business days overdue

I understand it’s an estimate. But every other item I buy arrives a within a few days of the estimated date. 99% before, actually. That is my experience over the years.

Based on the replies it looks like I have a good chance of receiving a justified refund for the postage cost. So thank you to all.

International flights land there every day.

I don’t know if it is coming via courier or standard international post. And I don’t see how any of the other information you mentioned really matters. It is not a rare part. It’s not a large part. They’re radiator hoses. It’s a week overdue with no follow up and no tracking. That fails to meet the given time frame and a HUGE waste of time and money for me. The other international sellers did not offer any express postage options. But the postage was more than half the price I paid to get it in the desired time.

Transaction was instant using PayPal. Buyer marked shipped within 1-2 days I believe. But it’s still 8 days overdue from the estimated delivery date. I can understand maybe 1-3 days. But not 1-2 weeks.

sorry to disappoint you, but I don’t think that Brisbane being your state’s largest airport will have anything to do with where in Australia your item lands.  It may land in Melbourne, where it will clear the international mail centre before being forwarded to either Aust Post or a courier sort facility.  From there, it may travel by road to your destination.

Without details from the seller as to location of the supplier, or the delivery method chosen by the supplier, you are only supposing or guessing that it will land in Brisbane.  The supplier your seller uses may have large consignment bins for sorting international parcels.  They are unlikely to have one for Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide etc. and are more likely to have one for Australia, with it being placed on the next flight destined for Australia from their location.

I live in NW Vic, and I have had items arrive from overseas that have landed in Australia in any number of capital cities.  Adelaide is the closest, followed by Melbourne and then Sydney (or maybe Hobart?).

Jast saying that you are assuming a lot when you think the item will land in Brisbane because they have the largest airport in your state.

some sellers mark the item as being sent even when it hasn’t been sent.  They do this to make it look like they send items promptly.

The ‘sent date’ you need to concern yourself when assessing the lateness of an item is the one from the seller’s supplier.

Yes. For example I won an auction for an item in Germany yesterday evening and the first day of the estimated delivery is Friday, whicih is almost impossible, particularly considering it might be sent as a large letter and the seller is supposed to send it within 2 business days. It would be nice of course, but I have no hope. I expect it to arrive between Wednesday and Friday next week.

I forgot to mention customs. If it has been flagged by customs then they will hold it for a few days to a week and express post makes no difference to that. They pull aside random parcels for inspection and if they choose yours then it is not the sellers fault, just a risk from buying from overseas.

Yes I’m assuming it would come direct to my state. I don’t work for post/courier services so I’m assuming. Not much more I can do without physical tracking available to me - which the seller has yet to share.

I don’t see how my assumptions on the methods of delivery affect the delivery date. I paid $106 for express postage to get it to me before a deadline and it still hasn’t arrived over a week later. That’s the point of this thread. Not to nail me about my knowledge of the system...

but it is relevant.

You appear to have placed 100% confidence in eBay delivery estimated date, and in the efficiency of the carrier (either Aust Post or a courier) to get the item to you in much more than one day of arriving in Brisbane.  You also haven’t considered that the item might land in Melbourne, that it might take time to clear customs, that it then might travel by road to Sunshine West, then to Chullora, then to Sunshine West, then to Chullora, then to Underwood, then to Chullora, then to Underwood before being delivered to you.

Your statement in post #7 of “We have an airport so it shouldn’t take much more than a day to get here from Brisbane” is just plain optimistic.  Some members have posted in threads of items posted within the same suburb taking 1 week to arrive by Aust Post.  If your item ends up in Aust Post hands it may take two weeks just for the Australian leg of the delivery.

So you’re saying as a consumer I have no argument to a refund (partial or not) for being mislead by the advertised delivery date? It should not have been advertised if it was not probable. Not my fault. You’re still attacking me about my assumption of receiving my parcel on time. That’s ridiculous.
