GST for Australia rip off

GST charges for Australia ought to be 10% upon purchase price. But recently have noticed the final invoice coming up with something like 20% purchase price and labelled "import duty" i.e GST. Isn't this illegal on ebay's part?

Some got 50 Million dollar

Eureka, I found it - Alan Moss in 2009. ONE, not some, and nearly a decade ago. Which slightly predates GST on overseas purchases. And has absolutely nothing to do with it, either.

All banks got strikes from their shareholders this year for their executive pay, so the owners of the companies (ie the ones with the power and the RIGHT to change things) certainly said something. Although none of the execs managed $10m, much less $50m.

Sigh, another conspiracy theory blown up by FACTS.

LOL what facts?  I'm talking historically. The point I was making sir is that the same creature that fibbed and said he wasn't going to bring in GST is part of the same system that was responsible (and had a big hand in it) to privatise our revenue generating public assets. Also made it possible for banking execs to get 50 mil payouts at the expense of the everyday man and woman.

Didn't that so-called PM howard also say something like, or rather to the effect of  .....  "People who earn over $200K per year should have these tax cuts as that's proof of their hard work". Something similar anyway.

Anyway, back to the subject. It could easily be argued that if all these public assets were not privatised and the mega-wealthy and big companies were taxed as they should be, we would not have GST and we certainly wouldn't be paying GST for the second hand and unwanted things we the ordinary every day people buy of ordinary every day people overseas.

And davewill1964, you may note that I posted in response to bjmonty28's post below

Where on earth is all this “GST” going anyway??? And what are we getting for it’s in return???? Better roads??? More hospitals??? Less immigration???
It’s all going to the greedy pigs in parliament and we are getting nothing. Australia is the scam Not just qld.
When I buy something from overseas sellers my checkout shows huge gst fees. Who’s reaping that? The seller or eBay the Mongrels? I’m sure if it’s the seller they are not forwarding it on to the aus govt

Re: GST for Australia rip off

In 1951 the top marginal tax rate was 90% on 10,000 quid. In 1983 it was 60% on $36,000.

If that was still the case, there certainly wouldn't need to be a GST (which was partly compensated for by tax cuts, and even more by vote-buying tax cuts by Howard and Costello). Only one bank was publicly owned in living memory, so what about the other 4 (if you include Macquarie, which is the only one to pay that much out, and isn't a traditional bank anyway). Where do you draw the line on historicity?

Ps: I am not an officer.

Well, these "currupt piece of **bleep** politicians " are of use to the masters that they serve. The $$$ super $$$ super $$$ super $$$ wealthy think they are worth something. Well as long as they keep serving their mighty masters.

What a shock!

You think the government shouldn't have any money, but should still provide services.

The govt gets plently money from other taxes etc. They have GST to cover what they pay themselves and also to make up for the revenue loss when privatising things things they shouldn't.

Oh and how much do they pay themselves (Should have rephrased that lol)  and how much are their lifetime pensions after politics?

If you asked most people in Africa and Asians they'd say YOU are super wealthy, so stop whining and be grateful for what you've got instead of being so jealous of people who have more than you.

Don't you realise that the government has a dollar figure of what they need to raise in taxes (for example to put into heath and education, etc), and if they didn't have the GST then the money would definitely come from other taxes being raised.
