It's pretty obvious. It's pretty childish too.
I will say worzel*gummidge that there are a group of bullies here that try their tactics (some dishonest too), having a go at people who speak out against certain bad practices by sellers and the Global Shipping set up. I'm glad that there are a few good members here that are not afraid to speak out and don't let bullies decide what should and shouldn't be said.
This is a discussion forum where people have the right to speak out against things that are affecting buyers. So please don't be deterred in what you feel is the right thing to discuss.

You know, some of the threads that have been pulled up again talking about GST on imports are from years ago, there's one that was started in 2012
That indicates at least 6 years people had to challenge the government, to argue with Harvey, or whatever else people think could have been done to stop it, and the best we've got now, now that it's actually in place is...
"I hope someone else stops it"
And a bunch of complaints. Is it really any wonder that it happened?
And 6 years to stock up on things before the gst was introduced and before postage went up and before everything cost more.
I notice a lot of the people who are complaining about the gst and gsp are buying collectable items, so it's not like they NEED to buy any of those things. Many people are around the world can't afford to buy food just to survive but some people here can never be grateful that they have extra income for non-essential items, and that they have access to markets that didn't exist not all that many years ago and consequently have a much greater choice than previously.

Hi,
I'm an eBay seller from Israel.
I also had my first sale with GST but I didn't send the parcel yet.
I've talked with eBay Australia, eBay USA and even with ATO in order to understand how to send the parcel so my customer won't be charged again for GST.
It's very difficult to understand what to do since it was new to the representative of eBay and since as a seller I barely see any indication that GST was paid by my customer.
At first I saw in that order that the "total price" is higher than the "sale price" and I suspected that it's because the GST. Later eBay updated the website and now I see that "sale price" = "total price" and it's equal to the item price.
Only in "Order Details" page I see this note: "eBay collected Australian GST from your buyer." but if I want to print it, this note doesn't show in the printer version 🙂 .
I read the information in the following link:
https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/selling-policies/tax-policy?id=4348
I understand that if the GST was collected from the buyer, the seller should add the following lines on the parcel :
eBay's ABN # 64 652 016 681
Code: PAID
I didn't understand if I need to add something to the customs declaration so I am not going add anything to it since eBay doesn't show me the amount of the GST that was collected anyway.
ATO told me also to mention on the parcel that GST was collected.
I hope that my customer won't be charged again and that the parcel will arrive to him soon without any issues! 🙂

Hopefully this helps -
According to this information page, it states that there will be no change to border clearance processes, or the flow of goods across borders.
I expect this means that the government is working under the assumption that GST has been applied to any low value imports, if required, and that GST will not be charged upon arrival in Australia, whether there is something on the package to indicate GST has been paid or not. (I have read other pages of info from the ATO that also indicate this, but I couldn't re-locate them to link here and now, unfortunately). It's only if the goods are valued over AUD$1000 that GST will be charged to the buyer if the customs declaration does not indicate GST has already been paid.

thanks for posting here Tzipi.
From an Aussie buyer perspective, what would stop a buyer of a non-eBay item asking the sender to write that eBay ABN number and "GST PAID" on the packaging?
Do we really think customs is going to check every single aBay item for GST compliance as it lands in Australia? Will they have the staff to check every item with eBay ABN written on packaging? I don't recall Malcolm or Scomo allocating a heap more $ to Customs or AP in the last budget!

I wish I could find the page again, because I only read it recently (I might have to look through my browser history), but it actually stated the government is expecting to "catch" roughly 50% of applicable purchases with this system, if that tells you anything.
However, I also found this, and ran out of time to edit the link into my previous post: Requirements for customs documents
