Has anyone received a refund when dealing with the new Money Back Guarantee?

I have a current dispute regarding a purchase where the item arrived Not As Described.

After trying to sort it out with the seller who was hostile towards me I have ended up going through the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

Well so far not good.

First time I rang I was told the case was to be put on hold for 5 days then I should get a refund.

Didn't happen, so rang them again only to have my case put on hold another 5 days.

Of course no refund has turned up...

My question is has anyone had a successful Money Back Guarantee claim with eBay as all I have been reading here is people with the same problem as me ...

Thanks for your responses.

Yes, the 5 day holds were my experience too. I had no communication whatsoever from the seller Thexdntire process. At the end of the second hold I emailed ebay and they promptly refunded.

Alex, here's my experience of the MBG from a post I posted in a while back............

"The MBG is a long envolved process - too long and too envolved IMHO.

I bought an item on 18th Jan, received it 27th Jan and saw major problems with it, very much INAD so sent the seller an email about it and they were not willing to resolve the problem even after 6 emails, so I opened a return request with eBay on 3rd Feb.

At that point I  told them about all the problems I'd encountered (which had also been previously advised to the seller in our emails).

The return was then put on hold until 10th Feb when I was finally able to open a case for resolution by eBay and restate all the problems yet again....................finally on the 19 Feb the case was closed in my favour.

But with each step in the process it is really not very clear as to exactly where you are in that process, so even for someone like myself it's a minefield to deal with and I imagine the OP may well have missed a step in that process through no real fault of their own.

All I can suggest vxholden is that you phone eBay and ask to speak to a supervisor and get them to tell you exactly where you stand and what you still need to do, if anything."

I couldn't for the life of me follow the MBG process and I have been here for years. I had to ring 3 times to get it sorted out. On the other hand I have a buyer who has feedback of 25 so not very experienced but very very well versed in the MBG process. I will most certainly be asking ebay to check their dispute process records.

I now wish I had gone through PayPal to sort this out as eBay isn't responsive at all to me as a buyer ... thanks for your reply

I will ring them again today and ask to speak to a supervisor if the call centre person doesn't give me any real solution. Thanks for your reply.

Yes, my item was not as described, much smaller size that what was listed.

My phone call to eBay resulted in them telling me I had to ring back after 5 days, but the email they sent about this said 7 days.  This was to return the item, with the seller paying the postage.  Seller replied I could return, but never mentioned postage.

I rang them back after 7 days, went thru the full rigmarole, evidently U have to cancel the return process under their supervision, then they said they would consider a non-return with the money back guarantee.  They said on the phone it would take another 5 days, but they sent me an email saying they had refunded within 1/4 hour of my call & Paypal had credited the money immediately to my A/c.

I am not sure what happens if the seller does not reply - that might be a different scenario.

Harley the whole MBG is a complete "dogs breakfast" IMHO and is wide open for buyers to rort the system, if as I suspect, eBay is not monitoring the amount of claims by individual members and the only time excessive claims are noticed is when the sellers question MBG claims against them.

Hopefully I'm wrong on that assumption, but going by eBay's actions (or rather inactions) in other areas I kind of doubt it.

The "Too Hard Basket" syndrome perhaps...................original.gif
