How long does a seller get to ship an item after I have paid for it, before I file a dispute?

I paid for an item 7 days ago, seller has acknowledged receipt of funds (paypal), but still hasn't shipped the item. How long do I wait before filing a dispute...?? Thanks.

Do you go out to a restaurant & order a meal & be told your order will be cooked & delivered within next 4 weeks. NO that is wrong, therefore why should any transaction or eBay purchase be any different, professional sale & a professional business will & should have the item ready for shipping with 24hrs of payment made. Enough said.
4 weeks is highly inappropriate & I’d be asking for a refund after 7 days, regardless business days or not.

even if the item is coming from an overseas seller? (Singapore in this case)

Even if the seller got the item into the post one minute after it was paid for you have to factor in that the item will need to clear customs before getting into the hands of Aust Post . . . . . . . and to expect anything delivered by Aust Post within a week is lunacy nowadays, let alone 7 calendar days.

Now, using your restaurant example, would you wait 7 days for your order to be cooked?  I only ask to highlight that your analogy is not appropriate for this situation.

Perhaps because you're not sitting in the seller's shop / home, waiting for them to bring out your purchase on a silver tray (or a plastic one, depending on the restaurant seller). They won't be able to hear the impatient drumming of fingers on a table, or snaps to get their attention, either...

It is problematic to apply universal expectations to any given retail situation, particularly when sellers take the time to set out their terms of sale (which include handling times), and no amount of "but I expect...." can change those realities. Just like buying a blue widget and expecting a red one is ridiculous, so is buying an item with 7 day handling time and expecting it shipped within 24 hours. The seller's circumstances and processing times matter, anyone who is not prepared to respect a seller's terms of sale should not buy from that seller.

Professionalism has nothing to do with processing time, either. Want a made to order item to be the best quality it can be? Wait for it.

Timely and informative courtesy is always a thing of joy.
