You would need to ask the seller that
People here are just like you, not the seller, not ebay and not responsible for giving you a refund
Why did'nt you ask the seller in person when you picked up the item?

you need to contact the seller and request the refund of postage.

So are you saying you paid via paypal before picking up the item?
You've made things a bit of a pain for the seller as I'd guess they have been charged fees on the whole transaction, including the postage component now.
If they haven't sold a lot, they may not even be sure how to make a partial refund or how to get some of their fees back.
I'm not sure why you didn't send a message to the seller before arranging pick to sort it out beforehand but all you can do is send a message now & ask.

It can be more trouble for a seller to disrupt their day sitting around waiting for some-one to come to pick up an item and chat to them for 10-15 minutes than it is to pop the item into the mail with all of the others. If the seller places any value on their time at all, they are probably out of pocket due to the local pick-up. ( Thats me ... I normally dont do local pick-ups FULL STOP. More trouble than they are worth )
Of course there are others who are retired or dont work who love having some-one call around and chat for a few minutes. Theres no right or wrong answer to this one. It depends on the sellers personal circumstances.

Not as a right, if the seller is willing to give you even more of their valuable time by processing a partial refund then yes but personally as the mistake was mine (should have asked for an invoice less postage before paying) I would probably not even ask.
