I have spent about $2,000 with one supplier in the States, buying about fifty items over a period of 3 months. All was well at the beginning but then items listed as 'new' were obviously not, with major faults. I left honest feedback and now find that the seller has blocked me from bidding.
How can we trust the feedback system if sellers are allowed to block buyers who speak up rather than accept that it was a bad transaction and possibly never use ebay again.
It distorts the feedback system and has definitely changed my opinion of ebay.

I don't know why you would want to buy from that seller again if they had ripped you off anyway..
Your feedback should still be there unless the seller had asked for it to be removed, and ebay removing it isn't likely unless it had breached feedback guidelines or was incorrect
A seller can block whoever they want from bidding for whatever reason, leaving bad feedback is just one of many; but they can't block the bad feedback

I am with patch - you have NOT been black listed, this seller has simply decided not to sell to you again, which is his right to do so - and why would that bother you if he was as bad as you say ??
Edited to ask - DId you at least advise the seller of a problem and ask if they would rectfiy before you left your string of red dot's?
You purchased quite a bit from the same seller and left positive for some.

"worst seller on eBay"
if it makes you feel any better, bet the guy who sold me a couple of lights was way worse.....
struggling to see how the feedback system has been distorted?
I mean, you have been able to leave a record of how you viewed the transaction/s, they're still there from what I can see, so other members can now be warned and will be there for anyone who checks to make an informed decision.
You've even told other people to check his feedback.
So his trading record and the opinions and experiences of others is all there for people to see

in fairness over 52,000 positive in a month is impressive

Works out at about 99.7 feedback. Extremely acceptable for a large volume seller.
In fairness I don't understand why the OP, who is not exactly a newbie, would want to buy again from the seller considering their recent experiences. Or not understand how the system works.
The seller has done you a favour, OP, they have taken the decision out of your hands.
And I block NPBs, anybody who leaves me negative comments on positives (especially when the complaint is about things clearly shown in the listing, or they trash my stars), all who leave me neuts, and (if I ever get one) everybody who leaves me a neg. In my opinion, they obviously don't really want to buy from me again, and I facilitate that decision.

Lucky, eh? Or I'd lose an awesome book supplier.
