My post was an objection to this "I was over charged for postage!", not about this "postage method not being as described" (which I agree is not good). If you advertise and describe the postage in the listing (i.e., postage with signature on delivery, insurance, parcel post etc) then the buyer should receive the postage as per stated in the listing. In this case I would mark down the sellers stars and leave it at that (as long as my item was received in acceptable condition).

If I was charged more than maybe $10.00 I might query the seller depending on the item purchased. I wouldn't leave a neg, I would likely leave no FB at all and not deal with that seller in future.

But I doubt I would be concerned for anything under that so long as I felt I got what I paid for.

As I have said often, there are way more 'deserving' reasons for negatives, and the negative given by a buyer shows on the buyers feedback also, and can often show the buyer as being nit picky or hard to please. JMO

Did the seller know for sure when they posted this item that it would get to its destination without any problems? No, they didn't.

Most parcels do get delivered to the right address in a timely manner. So that makes all tracking irrelevant then? Sellers don't need to include it when they post parcels? Just tell the buyer their parcel will probably turn up with out it.

No one can be 100% sure BEFORE they post a parcel that it will get to its destination. That is why there is a tracking option. And that option is never irrelevant.

You seem to be deliberately missing my point.

The items arrived in good condition. So a satchel with tracking, in this case, would not have made any difference.

A seller doesn't know whether something will arrive, true. But this transaction did, and nothing was broken.

If a seller chooses to send in an envelope, regardless of whether or not that is the method they have quoted, then if the items arrive broken or not at all, the seller WILL be liable for a refund.

But this didn't happen to happie.

I don't know what you paid for the wallet but lets say $10.  If the seller bought the wallet for $1 and sold to you for $10 would you be complaining about what you paid, no because you don't know what their cost was, yet the margin is similiar to that on the post.  If they sold it for $17.20 "free" post would you complain when it only showed $2.10 postage no, because you don't know what they have costed the postage at, in this case $7.20 for what ever reason.  So if you are complaining because you feel you were ripped off cost wise, well get over it.  However if you are complaining because it was sent letter post and the ad said parcel post well then you have a reasonable reason to be annoyed.  If you complained to me about the first reason I would suggest in the nicest possible way to move on, if you complained for the second reason I would apologise and refund the difference.  Leave stars as you feel fit, however negatives can do a disproportionate amount of damage to a seller.

If sellers do as the one has done in the opening post - charge $8+ p&H and send costing them $2+ then buyers are going to be peeved and not be inclined to buy from them again...the sellers loss.

I would query the postage charge, see what the sellers response was. if they had a don't care attitude, probably would leave positive feedback but include a comment about postage cost being a lot higher than actual cost.

Your point is the item arrived in good condition?

The opening posters point is the seller charged her $8+ ( postage cost in listing) for an item the seller paid $2+ plus to post. Not that the item didn't arrive or it arrived damaged.

They overcharged her. They quoted parcel rate, sent in a large envelope for less cost. The seller could have refunded her the difference.

This is about the sum of it. This is not 'free post' that could hide all manner of sins. It is not even a generic little standard post. It actually specifies a particular product/service. Seems the seller pocketed more of Happy's money than they should have. Happy's money. A seller worth their salt would refund/partly refund an overcharge.

Sadly the feeling I am getting from a few posters on these boards is that buyers should just shut up/turn a blind eye and be grateful they got the item at all!

Re: I was over charged for postage what do I do ? I have emailed the seller with no reply.

I agree. Overcharged is overcharged and I believe whether the cost is in the listing or not is irrelevant.

Really though, how do you define fair handling charges? I use recycled packing, I work in the same building complex as the post office so apart from tape I have little or no costs attached to packing and handling. On the odd occasion where I pay for bubble wrap etc, a couple of dollars is fair enough.

I bought an item stating postage was $12.50. When I bought I had no idea of the weight or size/under or over 500g, so the cost quoted could have been quite fair if sent signature delivery. Turns out it was under 500g, sent in recycled packaging and cost $7.25, no tracking or signature, no insurance. In my mind the added postage is unfair and I'm waiting on that seller to advise what they will do. I emailed and told them I wasn't happy and was giving them an opportunity to comment before I left feedback. Their first argument - that was the listed cost and I didn't ask for signature.

It seems there are a few sellers using postage as an excuse to cover eBay and PayPal fees.

Yes, and thanks to them they have given eBay the excuse to charge EVERYBODY final value fees on post costs Cat Mad

Why anyone would defend the practices of a post pirate seller is beyond me.

And from now on a lot will be disguised in "free postage" so we won't know what we are paying for.

Pick up only from now on for my stuff. Or go back to the old school "send a stamped self addressed envelope" method.
