Is it legal for Global Shipping Program to charge $50 extra to actual cost of $23

is it reasonable that the global shipping joke charges $75 to ship the same item?

Because how else does it reach ebays attention? I would have no trouble with gps if it was very clear and involved a separate step in the bidding process as it is an entirely separate transaction that sellers are even sometimes unaware of. This is the very definition of misleading conduct by EBAY.

You're still missing the point - why do you think it's eBay policy to remove feedback for sellers using the GSP?

I'll tell you why - because they know the system is flawed, they know buyers will leave feedback for sellers about the system, but they consider these flaws A) acceptable, and B) not the seller's issue or fault.

Re: Is it legal for Global Shipping Program to charge $50 extra to actual cost of $23

It's not actually ebay's job to educate people about the tax laws in Australia. They said gst may be charged, which is all they can do because if it's an auction they can't tell you the exact amount and they don't know whether you'll be getting it shipped to Australia or to somewhere overseas.

Whenever a law is changed, lots of people will get caught out because they're unaware of it, but you'll know for next time. The change in the law was publicised pretty widely but I can understand that a lot of people will still get caught out the first time they buy from overseas.

I don't believe the govt should have contact each and every Australian citizen each time a law changes - the cost would be prohibitive and if it came in the form a letter an awful lot of people wouldn't bother to read it anyway.

Ebay are fulfilling their obligations and it's not their job to educate buyers on the new laws. There's enough information in listings now without adding more, and a lot of people still wouldn't read it if the information was there. The more information provided, the less inclined people are to read it.

Why should sellers be punished for an Australian tax that they know nothing about?  Just be grateful that the GSP exists and that some sellers are prepared to use it rather than say "no overseas sales AT ALL".

I am a buyer and a seller. 99 out of 100 transactions are sweet. Don't be shy GIVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!

Contrary to the apologists for poor service, it engages ebay complaints algorithims or maybe even a person and I have always recieved some level of satisfaction. I am not talking about taking advantage or scamming but if you have recieved poor expensive service COMPLAIN

All I can say to that is I hope you feel similarly when one of your buyers has a complaint about something.

Say, for example, they bought on a mobile and don't open the description, misunderstand something and have a complaint, or perhaps eBay tells them an ETA of X date and the package arrives a couple of days later than that, even though you shipped within your handling time. Please do tell them to leave you a neg, based on the notion it's the only way to get eBay's attention about the issue.

In fact, I would go so far as to challenge you to put that advice in your descriptions, since you feel it's ok to hand that advice out to every buyer dealing with any seller, in relation to not liking something that is outside of the seller's control.

Simple. Buy from the ones who use standard, untracked mail.

After all, as a buyer you have almost 100% eBay protection.

Or aren't there any sellers using standard mail for relatively fragile items to the other side of the world? There seem to be a few mugs out there, going by your examples, so what is the problem?

can you let us know more details about the item so we can reply with accurate information?

- where was the item bought from?

- if USA or UK was the Global Shipping Program the shipping method?

- what was the item number so we can take a look?

- what was the total for item + postage?

- what additional charges were there?

Oh great....a first time poster taking issue with information that was correct when it was posted NEARLY SIX YEARS AGO.

I cannot argue whether it is still correct as I have not used the GSP recently but it was when I posted.

As mentioned....please give the item number so you can be given CURRENT information that may be of assistance.

And please check the dates on threads before jumping in and disputing what members have said.
