Item paid for via paypal (complete) but buyer says the haven't recevied money

I purchased an item last night on eBay, paid immediately via paypal.  Paypal has the transaction listed as complete and eBay has the item marked as paid.  Seller is saying that they have not received the momeny at their end.
Has anyone dealt with this before?  
I have screenshots of the completed transaction, so my part is done, right?  Should I request that the seller sends the item or are they able to hold the item if they say Paypal hasn't given them the money?

If the payment is showing as complete, it means whichever the address the payment was sent to was a valid address registered with a PayPal account. If you told them the email adress the payment was sent to, they should know immediately whether it was theirs or not, so IMO should have been able to definitely confirm if that was the incorrect address.

 

As the payment is completed, you only option for retrieving the funds are a manual refund issued by the recipient, or by lodging a dispute / claim (for item not received, presuming the item isn't sent and received), and I presume the seller won't send the item unless they receive the funds, and the only way to repay if an incorrect address is attached to the item listing, is via a manual payment (either by sending funds or paying an invoice generated by the seller - your buyer protection is the same as long as the invoice shows it was for eligible goods which are being posted, so make sure the invoice or payment reflects that, quotes the eBay item ID etc if you do it that way).

 

You may be able to give PayPal a call and clarify the situation, and possibly receive a refund if they can determine the payment was sent to the wrong account.

It is a relatively rare occurence, and I haven't heard of it happening recently (or, indeed, in the last year or so), but in the past a seller has received no notice whatsoever that a payment was made via PayPal until a few days after it was made. Just in case there's an issue with PayPal, or the email address the seller used, let the seller know the transaction ID number, plus the email address it was sent to, as they should be able to use those details to chase it up with PP.

 

Was the seller very clear about meaning no money had been received into their PayPal account? I only ask that on the odd chance they said something like "I don't have the money yet", and they mean they're waiting for the funds to transfer out of PayPal and to their bank account. If that's the case, they really should be posting within their stated handling time regardless (which can be just about anything from 1-30 days).

thank you for the reply.

I have given him the transaction number and email address that it was sent to.  He messaged that he thinks ebay had incorrect email address listed....

I have also let him know that it is up to him to chase it, my part is complete, I have paid and have proof.
He wants me to request a refund via paypal and pay again, but from what I can see, there is no option to do that.

He said that he had received nothing at all from Paypal. I asked if it was listedin his account as pending perhaps but he said it isn't listed at all.

If the seller has put the wrong email addy as his paypal address then that is the sellers fault NOT ebay's.

ebay do not enter any details in a listing it is all in the sellers hands to list details correctly.

If you go to your payment and if it has a cancel payment to the right of your payment then you can do that and tell the seller to fix their error before you repay.

 

Open the payment and copy the address the payment went too, send it too the seller  and ask if that is correct and if it is not then tell the seller to contact paypal and they might be able to help them.

Just to add to the other advice, keep all your ebay messages from and to the seller as your proof in case the seller opens an unpaid item case against you. Good luck!

This did happen to me a couple weeks ago. The seller was very good and kept in contact with me. They have since said the received it. It took about 10 days and have now posted.

Final outcome for this - the seller 'forgot' that he had paypal (despite selling items on ebay a couple of months ago) so didn't check it (even though he said it hadn't shown up in HIS paypal).....anyway, finally got the item today and will be staying well away from that seller from now on.
