Just a quick one...

I purchased numerous items from a seller - postage stated :

I am happy to combine postage.

If it can be combined and posted together without going over any postage limits any additional items will only be $0.50, otherwise, if it needs to go in a second envelope the full $2.50 postage will be charged  - send a message to confirm.

If you purchase multiple listings please do not do check out and wait for me to send you a combined invoice. To be eligible for combined postage, the payment needs to be completed in one transaction.

Postage within Australia is $2.50 - Direct Debit or PayPal accepted

I sent the request for combined invoice, and got the following message back from them :

Hi,

I have set up the combined postage invoice for you.  The total Postage and Handling amount is $5.50 - this is to allow for postage ($3.00 for items over 250g), ebay fees $2.05, Paypal fees $1.05, packaging and my time to get the items ready for sending and a trip to the post office.

Once paid I will get them sent off asap.

I am just unsure why they have stated that I have to pay for part of the ebay fee & the paypal fee!! Is it wrong to charge the seller that? Or include that as part of the postage fee?

Hi...They can charge whatever they want to. The bottom line is.. Do you want to pay it ? Personally, I think it is reasonable...IMO

I'm not saying the charge isn't reasonable, I'm just wondering if they can get away with saying that paypal fees & ebay fees are part of my cost to pay.

They should have just told me the shipping was $5.50 & that would have been it.

Yes, sometimes too much information really is too much and even if it doesn't actually change anything, it can alter someone's entire perception of a seller/transaction, I suppose.

In all technicality, P&H is meant to be exclusively P&H, and not cover/include anything like PayPal or eBay fees incurred as part of a sale or payment, so stating explicitly what the cost breakdown of their P&H charge is, is not really ...kocher, if you will, however the actual amount being charged has very little chance of being considered excessive by eBay's standards, particularly considering it sounds like a combined discount was applied, so I'm not really sure there's anything to be done about it, as it were.

You're right - it changes perspective of the transaction!

I'll pay it - I just wanted to make sure it was "legal" as such for them to state that!

Do you think it's worth telling the seller what you've said? for future reference?!

it wouldn't hurt. They will end up with a lot less negs that way.

others tell you to pay the seller but i disagree, they should not include their fees

You pay it for every purchase you make. or the seller is selling at a loss. Wake up.

It's just that the average seller isn't silly enough to enumerate costs.
