Just a quick one...

I purchased numerous items from a seller - postage stated :

I am happy to combine postage.

If it can be combined and posted together without going over any postage limits any additional items will only be $0.50, otherwise, if it needs to go in a second envelope the full $2.50 postage will be charged  - send a message to confirm.

If you purchase multiple listings please do not do check out and wait for me to send you a combined invoice. To be eligible for combined postage, the payment needs to be completed in one transaction.

Postage within Australia is $2.50 - Direct Debit or PayPal accepted

I sent the request for combined invoice, and got the following message back from them :

Hi,

I have set up the combined postage invoice for you.  The total Postage and Handling amount is $5.50 - this is to allow for postage ($3.00 for items over 250g), ebay fees $2.05, Paypal fees $1.05, packaging and my time to get the items ready for sending and a trip to the post office.

Once paid I will get them sent off asap.

I am just unsure why they have stated that I have to pay for part of the ebay fee & the paypal fee!! Is it wrong to charge the seller that? Or include that as part of the postage fee?

If it's not consensual, it's illegal.

You pay it for every purchase you make. or the seller is selling at a loss. Wake up.

It's just that the average seller isn't silly enough to enumerate costs.

-------------------------------------

That would be my feeling too.

The postage sounded fairly cheap, just a pity the seller told you  all the details.

But the fees have to be in there somewhere, either in the price of the items or the postage, otherwise the seller is losing out.

if they are including their sellers fees in their postage and handling charges, they are avoiding eBay fees.....

The way I read it is;

the seller has stated that postage is $2.50 unless over a certain weight then you may be charged another full $2.50.

No where did that say you are also to pay for ebay, paypal (which they are not allowed to do) but also time and packaging and trip to the post office. All those extras need to be stated up front if that's what the seller is going to charge

So the way I see it your postage was never going to be $2.50 so this is deceiving.

or did I read it wrong?

I wouldn't pay.........they are not allowed to do what they have stated.

Any fees to the seller should be factored into the cost of the item/s.   Postage fees are for postage.

By stating they are charging you an extra fee for paying via PayPal......they are breaking the rules.

You could report that email.

Bottom line is it makes absolutely no difference to the buyer if the fees are added to the postage or to the item cost, the only people missing out are ebay which for this transaction they are probably going to get a couple of cents less in fees than they would if the item price were a couple of dollars more and the postage less.

The seller is totally naive and should just have said it was $x for postage and $y for handling and then there would have been nothing to discuss, perhaps send them here to read this thread so they know not to be so honest next time.

Phorum_junkie - totally agree, as someone said before - by stating that thats how they are going to charge, it's changed my whole outlook of the transaction. If they had of said $5.50 for postage, end of story - I would have paid and then been disapointed when it arrived and knew it only cost $3.00 for postage, but would have sucked it up (like I do many times) but because they have actually stated where the extra money is going, it makes me angry! Haha... It pays not to be honest sometimes!!!

Thank you everyone for your help 🙂
