Negative feedback disappeared

I was shocked when the first negative feedback I left for a Seller had disappeared. I'm also posting because in my search for understanding I found similar threads with similar experiences.

I have made enquiries and I can only see two possible senarios but I might need further enlightenment.

1. my negative feedback left for a seller was removed because their Follow-up was considered defamatory, and therefor the Whole feedback including my feedback although it did not breach policy was removed.

Or 2. the Seller sent a Notice of Claim of Defamation Statutory Declaration to have it removed.

Either of these actions (if one is indeed the reason) made me feel that this was unfair. It seemed that I initiated a complaint with Ebay against the Seller which resulted not in any sanctions against the Sellar but a reward.

Clearly the first senario (if true- and I don't know) is extraordinary.

Because I am unable to ascertain whether the Seller had used this process; I only have an Email ( sent outside Ebay) from the company saying that they are undergoing this (after Resolution Process). I note that atleast Ebay UK policy is that I should have been Notified and given a copy if requested; these rules don't seem to apply here.

Am I right to assume that because I have received no advice from Ebay that the Seller has not submitted this "Notice"  so senario 2. can't be?

This leaves 1. or what else?

I have not found on any forum that anybody has discussed the Notice of Claim of Defamation Statutory Declaration, I can see that the use may be abused by Sellers to have Negative Feedback removed.

Although I have noticed Sellers concern about not being able to leave Buyers negative feedback, I am writing this as a Buyer with possible concern about Buyer's right to leave negative feedback on less than satisfactory Seller's .

I have tried to analyse the Seller's scores (that I left negative feedback that disappeared as mentioned above) and found that they had received 1,098 but with only (971) against their ID. What were they Neutral or negative and what happened to the 127?. What does it also say about the Seller when his score is 971 but the Seller has only left 908 for others?

Could the 63 or the other 127 have left negative feedback that nolonger appears?

Quite a few invitations going out tonight me thinks! I loved how a coin dealer got wrapped over the knuckles because the SD card was dodgy. Can't even work out who the bad feedback is for! Nor the difference between coins and SD cards. Funny how the seller before that got identical feedback.

One has to wonder why these shonky buyers would openly expose themselves. Not as smart as they like to think.

First negitive feedback disappeared so I made a small purchase and left another negitive feedback and that too has now gone also.....

I am now thinking there is funny business going on.

Have a little think about this. What you are saying is that it didn't matter one iota to you what the item was like or what the service was like, you were giving a neg that was based on none of that, only on getting revenge because your previous comment was removed.

I would imagine the seller simply contacted ebay and once they verified that, they would have removed the feedback.

That's because feedback, if it is going to have any value at all, has to be based on the actual product and the transaction.

You're undermining the whole feedback process.

Instead, have another little think about whatever you wrote in the first feedback. Usually you are allowed to leave a neg, so if yours was removed, it is because it broke the rules in some way. Did you say something nasty or swear or whatever? That would be one thing that could get it removed.

If that isn't the problem, did you complain about something that was clear in the ad eg some buyers might say something was smaller than they expected but the sizes might be in the ad.

Learn from it and next time if you have a problem, give feedback in a way that it won't be removed.

It's always very amusing to read how members (buyers) get soooooo mad when their bad f/back gets removed!

Learn from it and next time if you have a problem, give feedback in a way that it won't be removed.

All tose who get  livid, like OP did, and that other charmer who only bought something else so he can have the repeat performance as the first one bombed out, must get a great amount of pleasure and satisfaction in leaving negs - a totally self serving excersise  almost entirely for the benefit of the that person, the neg giver,  than " to help other shoppers" This is never to do with benevolence towards other shopper, it's always to do with revenge!

Oh, and to hurt the seller the only way they can - and when that is removed it would leave them feeling empty, unimportant, ineffectual - a nobody.

But - so much effort really doesn't warrant the end result, fighting so much to have the f/back re instated - as ultimately no one really cares about  your opinion - if anyone even gave 2 hoots about it, that seller would never have another sale!

Which is obviously not the case, never has been and never will be.

I think you're basically right but it is a shame because sensible feedback, good or bad, has the potential to be useful to other shoppers.

On the other hand, feedback that just says something like 'terrible' without pinpointing what was wrong is utterly useless.

I wouldn't say that 'no one' gives two hoots about feedback. It's true quite a lot of shoppers will buy regardless, but there have been a few times I have hesitated to buy because of the feedback about the product or service & I suppose there must be a few other buyers around like me.

Mind you, I think a lot of buyers can pick when a neg has been left by a numpty & ignore it.

Springy, you are also quite right - in general.

If the f/back was somehow true to form, reflecting a proper state of the item - it would be great to rely on it.

But as it is - I personally never take any notice of it as I could never be sure it wasn't left by the likes of our friends from the above posts.

Not only them, but many others, all you have to do is read the sellers boards to see the stream of ongoing complaints about Ebay's buyers, Ebays warped set up for f/backs - mostly petty (vindictive) f/backs - another words - 100% unreliable!

And even if some of them were right, and you go and still buy the item, the worst it can happen is you'll return it and get your money back!

I wouldn't miss out on anything that I want to buy or need  at home, or can't be bothered trawling the shops to find it - just because few people were not happy with that seller.

Also, almost every seller I have ever bought something from had negs, some of them as long as your arm - but my transactions with them were perfect.

And, since I can't be that unique with my shopping, it must be 1000's of other people who fared the same from sellers with negs - it just goes to show how really "useful to warn  other people" those f/backs are (NOT).

Now you mention it, I think just about every seller I have bought from has some negs or neutrals too, yet I have found them, on the whole, excellent sellers.

I used to sell a lot (not under this name) and in my opinion, if you can sell over 1000-2000 items without bad feedback somewhere along the line, it's a modern day miracle.

A lot of the time I don't take too much notice, except if a seller seems to have an unusually bad record.

Does Ebay have the policy where a seller can get one negative or neutral eliminated per year?  That is what one of the Ebay customer service people told us.

You can try and get that neutral removed, but IMO you can't put in your heading that

the item is professionally restored and repolished......and then say further down that some bits aren't.

Lots of buyers don't read further down and take in only the pic and heading.
