No Seller Contact

I purchased, along with 3 other buyers, a Buy Now item. I paid promptly, through PayPal, but to date have had no contact from the seller. I am not sure how much detail I can/should give here but would be interested in opinions as to how long to wait before commencing action against the seller. The item had a value of several hundred dollars. The seller was a very new member. I actually rang PayPal to make sure I was covered by PayPal's buyer guarantee which I was assured was the case. Maybe the other buyers may recognise the description and join this discussion?

Re: No Seller Contact

I have to ask the obvious first:

1. Have you firstly tried messaging the seller?

2. How recent is the purchase? as any action needs to be taken within 45 days...

3. Have you checked your 'purchase history" or email to see if the item has been marked as posted?

4. Is the seller overseas, hence a lengthy wait for delivey? Does it state delivery time in the listing description...

5. Is the seller still active on ebay or have they dissapearred?

Re: No Seller Contact

No contact from the seller isn't necessarily too much of a concern, as long as they post the item promptly etc, but if you've sent direct messages that require a reply, then I may be concerned. For me, it first depends on the item and then the seller's location.

You mention that they were a new seller and the item is worth hundreds of dollars - did you pay well below normal retail? Unfortunately, it's all too common for new members to list desirable and expensive items at a too good to be true price, and that's exactly what they are - too good to be true. (The items don't exist and the intent is to farm for information, which they get when people buy/pay, and take any cash they can along the way).

If you don't think the above applies to your purchase, then in general I'd give the seller about 2 days to respond to a message, and/or around two weeks for the item to arrive if posted within Australia, 3-5 weeks if being sent from overseas.

You have up to 45 days to open a claim with PayPal (best to open no later than day 44, as it's to the minute of payment), and once opened, if it's not resolved, you then have up to 20 days to escalate it to a claim.

Re: No Seller Contact

I would be contacting the other three buyers, assuming it's the generator.  The seller has 0 feedback,no items for sale, has only sold 4 generators and all on 7th November.

Ah... Just checked that listing. It's a copy of another seller's and half the price - that screams scam listing to me, I'm afraid.

I suggest you open a dispute now, and escalate as soon as possible.

The seller of the generators only joined ebay the day before he sold them.

If the price is too good to be true then it probably is.

I would send another message and give the seller 48 hours to respond....wait till Monday night in case they are away over the weekend.

Then open a dispute in paypal.  You have 20 days before you have to escalate to a claim so the seller still has time to deliver the generator.

Re: No Seller Contact

Thanks for your comments. I agree with pretty much everything that has been said. I have also done pretty well all that has been suggested. I was very iffy with the purchase which is why I checked with PP before committing to the purchase. According to the details on the sale, the seller is in NSW. I now suspect that is false. I hope the other buyers will come onboard as well. This is one big downfall to the hidden buyer, they cannot be kept in the circle. Oh well, away to open a dispute. As a point of interest the price paid is only very little below the price these units are selling for at auction. The specifications given (on all the sales) are rather exaggerated.

Re: No Seller Contact

Yes, it looks suspicious, eBay has removed the original listing.  Most likely your item will not be coming, but PP will refund you when you make a claim.

Re: No Seller Contact

All good and finalised. My claim has been upheld and my thanks to PayPal. If a similar occasion ever arises and you find yourself in a similar situation, give them all the help you can and although it is difficult, be patient.

Cheers, Chris
