I bought a deco light fitting, it certainly wasn't as described, there were numerous chips, all quite large where the gallery sits, my first thought was would the gallery sit in place....
Anyways, I thought I would go about things in a way suggested here on the discussion boards, so I did...
I emailed seller, he was arrogant & patronising, saying he would have mentioned the chips if they were significant...
I gave him the chance, he told me to send shade back, I'm happy to do that if he pays for me to send it back..
Ive tried to open a paypal dispute but there is obviously problems with the website atm as I was unable to, so I sent paypal an email....
Why can't all sellers be honest & describe item as is???
It's frustrating to say the least & to have a seller patronise me, phew, I wonder if it's because I'm a woman, I will tolerate it... No way..

PP has been having glitches; just wait for a while (later tonight or tomorrow morning) then try again. Do not bother to email PP, you get back only automated answer; there is not much point calling about glitch, I am sure they know about it. Sooner or later it will work again, and you have 45 days from the sale to open dispute 🙂

Even if you open a Paypal dispute you will be require to return the item at your own expense. Good sellers will pay for return postage when the error is theirs but they dont have to. It's normal to return any item prior to receiving the refund, and you should send by registered post.

My understanding is that it's not the buyers responsibility to pay return postage unless it is stated in the original listing?
Is this not right?

The PP rule is that you will get full refund of the original payment but you have to return the item in the original condition by on line trackable means; best is registered. If item is not as described then it does not matter what the seller said or did not say in their listing.

It is well worth ringing Paypal, if you get the right person they will open the dispute for you and sometimes escalate it straight away too.
Most sensible sellers will accept a photo of any damage and just refund without return but yours doesn't sound like a sensible seller.
When Paypal tell you to return it you must do so by registered post or click & send and keep all the lodgement paperwork to give Paypal if the seller tries to deny getting t back.
I will always give a seller who makes me pay for return postage a neg with a factual comment, not mentioning the dispute or Paypal, and give them one star for each category.

I left out the most important bit = return it at your expense

No, definitely not correct.

Why should I have to pay return postage??????
because that is the way PayPal have made it for returns.
just the same as if you bought a Toaster at Target, got it home and it didnt work, you'd have to pay your petrol or bus fare to go back to Target to return it for a full refund or exchange.
Target wouldn't give you any money towards your unnecessary return trip to their Store.
