I used to understand why buyers can't cancel there bids, but to many sellers are canceling there iteams because they are not happy with the amount bid on there iteam. If sellers can cancel buyers should be able to as well.

yes but see why should a buyer get a non paying strike and a seller not a non selling strike. Also for the good sellers out there why should they loose the chance for someone to bid on the iteam that the person who had been bidding will not buy.
The buyer can appeal the strike & the seller has the option to make a 2nd chance offer to any underbidders. The buyer can also report the seller for non performance if they wish & leave appropriate feedback.
BTW,the word is item not iteam. ๐

Thankyou for your views on not being able to cancel bids. Thankyou for the spelling lesson. I will take what you have said on board.
I do however believe ebay should allow buyers to cancel there bids and I hope from talking about this on ebay, the ebay masters will take this on board.

Belinda - I think that if ebay stats which were available for all to see most likely there would be more buyers who don't pay for the items they have won or who have cancelled bids than there would be sellers who didn't complete a sale or ended an item early.
From my stats alone I had nearly 1000 non payers in the last 18 months.
I have had around 200 buyers retract their bids on auctions which were still running over the last year. I had one buyer retract bids on around 15 auctions (when I checked their feedback they had retracted their bids 256 times in the last 12 months)
I have never not completed a sale and I have pulled around 10 auctions in the last 12 months - mainly because I had bidders who retracted their bids on my auctions.

Well I have never not paid and on one iteam I bought a couch my friends truck broke down I paid and said sorry I can't pick it up hope u have luck selling it again.
I have had one seller cancel there iteams 5 + times another relist an ideam to finsh at an earlier time the same iteam I was bidding on. I had one again today. I had one seller who I won the auction for a dest and shelfs. The end auction price was low but instead of saying he had no intention of selling he orgainised a time Thursday at 5 I was there at 4.55 he returned my calls at 5:30 I waited said he forgot come back tomorrowthen called changed to 10am sat He didn't turn up instead he re listed and sold to a higher bidder.
I'm just saying that I make mistakes, bid on something I change mymind on and I keep to the bid. Iwould like to cancel but know I have no vaild reason and yet here are sellers doing this.

Belinda, worse case scenario, retract your bid & use any excuse. That is better than being a non payer & as I said, the seller can make a 2nd chance offer to the underbidder.
BTW,it is item not iteams or ideams ๐

belinda I think you are confusing bid cancellations and retractions, with non paying bidders and sellers you don`t honor sales.
Bid cancellations is when a seller lists an item and for some reason they need to stop the auction, maybe the item was stolen, damaged or grandma found out and had a fit, so the seller "cancels" all bids and ends the listing. ticking one of the valid reason to do so, but it is theirs to do as they please until it is officially "SOLD"
Bid retractions is when a bidder decides they can no longer continue to purchase the item, there are valid reason why, and they can choose one to proceed, although ebay does not condone bidders playing games and messing with peoples listings, and some may choose one of the valid reason that is not true, but in reality most sellers would prefer a retraction than the bidder to win and not pay.
Non paying bidders who have won the item already and refuse to pay is a different issue, they deserve NPB strikes, unless there is a very valid reason in which case the seller and buyer can agree to a mutual cancellation of the sale.
Non performing sellers are those who sell an item and refuse to honor the sale, usually because they started the item too low and not happy with the price, these sellers will or should receive negative FB, and can be reported to ebay which stays on their record.
So there you have it, different situations call for different actions, and those who do not follow ebays rules and policies are held accountable, even if it is not obvious to the general population.

And bottom line is this is an answer centre- not a complaints board, staffed by volunteer ebay members who do NOT have the ability to change anything.
Ebay do not read here.
You would do better to contact ebay via email than complain here.
Quite honestly, I dont think you will get much action out of ebay, because most of us are relatively happy with the status quo. Since ebay run the site its their prerogative to run things as they see fit- no one is forcing you to like it or use it ๐

"And bottom line is this is an answer centre"
In all fairness to Belinda , this is a Discussion Board.
Buying
The place to talk about bidding and buying on eBay.

Apologies to belinda for my error, in my defence I did have several windows open.
Thank you so much for correcting my error silversterio, much appreciated
But the bottom line is the same, you can discuss it till the cows come home, but does anyone honestly believe a change will occur because Belinda and ay others dont like the way ebay is set up?
