The problem here is that I have contracted to buy an item from someone who is not actually the seller. The seller has good feedback and so I trusted the item description (eg used but "in perfect condition").
The 'hidden seller' was allowed to list the item with their own description and this hidden seller has, of course, no feedback and I have no basis to judge the trustworthiness of their description.
I feel that I have been mislead (not intentionally but mislead nevertheless) and the transaction is now too risky and may need to be cancelled. Am I entitled to cancel?

Austeam a lot of members were asking the OP relevant questions, including yourself asking the above question but the OP always chose to ignore answering those questions. That is why a lot of people were frustrated with the thread and the OP.
Also, the OP was determined that whatever anyone said to them they would ignore.

Valid points by austream nonetheless.

Based on some of his posts I would guess he didn't actually ignore us, he just didn't acknowledge or thank us. 🙂

The whole point was that the OP should have go to look at it, check the receipts for refurbishment, ask for demonstration, ask all the relevant question, and if not happy that the machine was as described, could have just walked away. Instead he decided to come here with whole heap of unsubstantiated accusation.

How can he leave negative feedback if the item has not been collected and paid for.

The neg will be removed when seller closes UID-if it isn't,then seller will need to ring ebay to have it removed.
Pretty damn sad though that it has to sit there when seller has done nothing wrong.:-(

This thread has focused far too much on who is right and who is wrong instead of what is right and what is wrong.
However, when I read the description I couldn't help but think there was very little information and what was given was somewhat vague, although this tends to be the case when items are listed from a mobile device. Is there a word limit on mobile listings? They always seem to be very brief.
I do agree that Ebay by encouraging people to list items via their mobile, has contributed to this problem. Mobile listings are inherently much more likely to be defective and, yes, I will certainly be more wary of them in future.

I really don't care who is right and who is wrong, but if the coffee machine was recently serviced and is in good working order then the OP might want to consider going ahead with the transaction. He will be the winner because he will be the owner of a nice coffee machine and soon be drinking good coffee. 🙂
I don't really see the point of persisting with a vendor when their item has been so seriously misdescribed. He also lives a fairly long distance from me and has no idea how to use it.
If it was as advertised then I would have no problems making the trip but a going through the motions visit, that would inevitably end up reiterating that the machine is not how it was represented to be, would just waste everyone's time.

Nobody misdescribed anything
buyers remorse only

hmmm I often sell things for friends or family members who are not eBay members and I haven't had any problems. Once a friend sold something for me because she sells overseas and I don't, not because my feedback was bad.
there could be a number of reasons that someone sold something on behalf of someone else, if the seller (who is selling on behalf of someone else) has good FB I wouldn't be worried as the seller of the item is responsible for what they sell,
Nor am I worried about buying from people with zero FB, everyone has to start somewhere. Sometimes I can even give them a bit of advice.
