Trouble wwith Australian Customs.(seeds)

I sometimes buy flower seeds from eBay sellers.A beautiful range is available.

But recently i ordered 3 packets of Impatiens from 3 different sellers ( to get the colours i wanted ), as well as some other seeds.

Customs has confiscated them all, giving a different reason in every case.

Other packets of seed came through.

The Customs website ( AQIS) used to be so easy to navigate - you just visited the website , and could easily look up all prohibited seed. Now one can't find the list at all !

Is this so Customs can say what they feel .like saying ?

Re: Trouble wwith Australian Customs.(seeds)

Some people don't care and will import seeds from overseas, with no regards to what it could do to the environment. As far as they are concerned, if they can buy it, they can import it, regardless of the rules. I'm sure if sellers here were selling expensive, over the top rat food, it would also be imported from the mainland with no regard to what it could do to the environment.

I'm pretty certain you'll find that most Eastern states seed and plant sellers are fully aware of the restrictions in place for WA and Tasmania, and block buyers from those states to avoid themselves being prosecuted for sending those items there.

Nope, because not everyone can block states. I can't block individual states. It's all or nothing for me.

Ah, ok Tippy, is the blocking maybe only possible if the seller has plants etc listed?

Padi, as Tippy says, sellers cannot block individual states as far as I know.

What most plant sellers do is state in very large type that they cannot send to WA or Tassie due to Quarantine Laws.

Some sellers are able to block states and areas, but I'm not 100% sure on how they do it. It's nothing to do with categories. Might be business policies or something, which I opted out of ages ago as it was doing my head in.

You can block by postcode when using business policies,(you can block all postcodes in a state so it's

excluded).

Each section has a postcode range so it can block large areas.

Re: Trouble wwith Australian Customs.(seeds)

When I go into my 'Edit postage policy' settings (for individual postage options) I can exclude whatever states - 'Exclude postage locations'- I like, just use the 'edit exclusion list' to exclude Tasmania, WA regional, Perth Metro etc.

I use it on the occasions when I offer seed or plant listings.

I am looking to import seeds and would love to chat with you! Is it possible to connect over the phone?

I do a lot of importing of seeds. To find out if you can import the seeds you want go to: http://www.aqis.gov.au/icon32/asp/ex_querycontent.asp

If the permitted species page says 'condition C7100' then you can import it as long as the seed is clean and labled correctly with the common and botanical names
