We’re reaching out to our millions of customers by email but it will take some time to contact everyone. Meanwhile, remember that you can go to eBay.com.au and change your password.

Given that most who received the reminder were complaining it must be a scam, why do you need a link.
You know the issue, you change your password. Do you need handholding as well?

I did that the other day, only to be sent an email to update my password (again) the next day. When I tried logging in to change it, it took me to the password update page with the email/ phone etc.. There was no way around it.

The scam is forcing everyone to change their password....I didn't wan't to but had to.....For all I know, that is what the hackers wanted.

You are wrong, this method is not for people who don't know how. I went to my account,"edit password" and had to select "email" or "text message" and was then sent a link. There are, and have been, a lot of fake emails supposedly from eBay in the past, and in their own rules, eBay states they will Never do this. I have already received a fake email in the past, which was verified by eBay as not originating from them, so obviously I was suspicious of this one, especially since the scammers out there would know exactly how passwords are being updated in this way, giving them the perfect opportunity to scam users. The supposed email from eBay didn't even come through until 24 hours later, which was more concerning. I finally went through it again... Same thing, link in password, came through straight away. I then took the chance and went through with it on this one, and all ok, got confirmation. I still don't know if the original email was from eBay or not.

How many of you have seen a fake eBay site? I have, and it looks like the real thing. I was warned by my Internet Security to not proceed as the site was a fake. Links in emails, can send you anywhere, to the scammer's site and it can look legitimate, like anything they want it to look like, it doesn't even help to check the address of the site, as it can be cunningly disguised to look legit. Sometimes just clicking the link in an email can install keylogging software without your knowledge, so for those who say they can tell the difference, I certainly couldn't and I would like to know how. Is it any wonder I am nervous about links in emails, especially from eBay who say they will never do it? I have good internet security, the best I can afford, and would never rely on the free stuff which is done by volunteers, however no security software can guarantee to save you from everything.
